Multi-Media Designer

Purpose: The Digital Media Producer designs and implements unique and engaging digital and multimedia exhibits to help create an innovative public portal to knowledge, significantly enhancing the participant’s experience and helping the Museum be a driving force in education.

Summary: The Digital Media Producer works with a cross-discipline content team to plan, develop, and install multimedia content for exhibit projects with a primary emphasis on highlighting current education.


Key Job Responsibilities:
a) Manage and coordinate the media development process for exhibit projects.
b) Direction and Collaboration
i) Work across departments at Museum.
ii) Identify, facilitate and support an effective, synergistic, and collaborative relationship between Museum and external partners, including external vendors and partnering collaborators
c) Digital Media Development and Implementation
i) Participate in a collaborative, cross-discipline content development team to formulate the best digital and multimedia strategy for each exhibit project and create high quality finished digital and multi-media hands-on interactive devices via an iterative prototyping process with an emphasis on current research.
ii) Program and customize software to implement different media platforms for content delivery and/or work with outside media producers to ensure final production meets design standards.
iii) Produce, edit and encode audio and video files for use across multiple platforms such as the Internet and podcasts
iv) Research and purchase hardware/software for durability and ease of use by visitors, as well as with an eye to building institutional capacity for digital media.
v) Maintain an organized, professional and secure workspace, keeping inventory and overseeing maintenance of all computers and hardware.
vi) Provide documentation (including source code, screen shots, digital assets, photos and video)
d) Grant Management
i) Participate in future cross-discipline proposal development including providing bid information and development of timelines and costs
e) Financial Integrity
i) Keep accurate records of all financial transactions and process all financial paperwork in a timely and organized manner
f) Science Literacy
i) Work to become fluent in best practices and theory across the field of science communication and museum exhibit development
ii) Attend and present at local and national conferences on these efforts.
g) OTHER duties as assigned including alternative service.
