Aquent's Fortune 500 retail/ecommerce client is looking for a Mobile UX Writer to work a 6 month contract with potential to extend onsite in Seattle, WA.

Business Overview:

Mobile apps team is a newly created team and office in Seattle, charged with owning all the mobile apps. The primary focus is on smartphone and tablet apps to enable the multi-channel consumer electronics shopper to make better, more confident buying decisions, connect with product information, bridge the online and in-store experience, and activate support and service.

Project Description:

We are hiring a Mobile UX Writer to help to innovate on the omni-channel customer journey via smartphones and tablets. This role will work collaboratively with UX Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers in a highly agile environment to craft talked about customer experiences that surprise and delight shoppers. The Mobile UX Writer will support the Standards team. This team is responsible for supporting the corporate and services apps across iOS and Android including tablet and smart phone. Due to the dynamic, startup-like environment, the right candidate must proactively take ownership of the way copy is used in the experience by seeking opportunities to optimize app copy, define processes and standards, and shape the brand voice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands business, technical and customer inputs to define new and/or changes to existing customer experiences
  • Creates deliverables and completes tasks including concepting, writing, completing revisions, proofreading, and editing of copy related to feature and app enhancements
  • Collaborates with other user experience and writing teams to ensure standard writing practices are utilized and overall experiences are consistent
  • Work with product owners and tech leads to prioritize business, technical and customer requirements in the design of solutions
  • Align with product management and design to define, evangelize, and codify a brand voice expression and content strategy for the customer experience within the mobile apps
  • ​Presents writing artifacts and articulates approach to gather feedback and approval from all key stakeholders
  • Works with development team and designers in the implementation of app features
  • Identifies severity and impact of open defects
  • Craft content for iOS and Android app stores to showcase app benefits and keep customers informed of improvements as new features are released
  • Works within a matrix organization collaborating with business stakeholders, other customer experience teams, project managers, and other relevant eCommerce teams
  • Understands fundamental mobile user experience best practices
  • Brings a clear and proven point of view regarding how copy can be consistently integrated with the UX process from the inception of a project

The team operates on two week sprints, and aim to have design working at least on sprint ahead of developers. Design teams will work collaboratively with product managers and developers to bring clarity and UX definition to mobile app concepts, and new features. UX managers will deliver sketches to add clarity to ideas, will deliver user flows and wires to add clarity to sketches as they are further validated through user testing, and will delivery final annotated wires as needed. This office is solely developing native apps and UX teams are expected to understand mobile interaction affordances and needs.

Skills Overview:

  • Current portfolio showing copywriting skills applied to functional software interfaces
  • Likes to see context around copy and screenshots as well as mobile work
  • 8-10 years’ experience writing for digital products
  • 1+ years experience in writing for mobile application/small screen preferred, but not required
  • 1+ years experience in content strategy for digital properties preferred, but not required
  • Ability to communicate copywriting choices effectively, build consensus, and justify decisions

  • Familiarity with user-centered design methods
  • Track record of project execution; completing products on time and on budget
  • Knowledge of user experience trends and digital consumer behaviors
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to work under rapid development cycles with nimble, agile working teams to achieve a common goal

Software Skills:

  • Microsoft Word – Intermediate/Advanced
  • Presentation tools such as PowerPoint and/or Keynote – Beginner/Intermediate
  • Wireframeing tools such as OmniGraffle or similar – Beginner/Intermediate
  • Design tools – Adobe Creative Suite and/or Sketch – Beginner/Intermediate
