Mid UX/UI Designer

Our client, a large data company in Cambridge, is searching for a UX/UI Designer to work on complex web apps. The role is a long term, ongoing contract (1+ years).

For this role we are looking for candidates with:
— Completed at least 3-4 web and/or mobile app design projects that have shipped.
— Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team with a variety of stakeholders and directly with developers for implementation of designs.
— Must provide an online portfolio and samples of UX design deliverables (user personas, user journey maps, workflow maps) that demonstrate approach to user-centric design, no exceptions.

This position is full time (long-term contract) and based at our Cambridge office.


The Role:

— Work collaboratively with developers, product managers, executives, subject matter experts and other designers throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle.

— Design data-driven workflows and task sequences taking into account micro-and-macro perspectives of UX fundamentals in the context of the workflow.

— Create journey maps, UI flow models, storyboards, wireframes and mockups to effectively communicate interaction design paradigms.

— Work on projects both autonomously and in tandem with lead designer and project managers.

— While this is not a coding role, a basic level of ability and understanding of html5, SASS and data models is necessary- we are looking for someone who can design effectively for rapid development. Coding skills are a big plus.

— Integrate usability studies, research and competitor analysis to explore the many different approaches to solving a specific user problem
Candidate Requirements:

— Be a UX designer, first and foremost, and strive to create innovative and intuitive interfaces that support the needs of the the user.

— Demonstrated both analytical and empathetic thinking skills - grasps "abstract” or technical concepts and scenarios as they translate into concrete UX deliverables and requirements.

— Strong collaborator - must have experience designing in collaborative teams with other designers as well as a variety of other stakeholders(product managers, developers, and subject matter experts) throughout the design process to deliver high quality projects in a timely manner. Must take direction well, have a positive attitude, enjoy collaborating with others and always prepared to discuss the logic behind design decisions.

— Strong communicator - solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present a strong rationale for design decisions.

— Sold time management skills - ability to be self-directed when needed, intrinsically motivated, resourceful and able to stay on track without requiring"micro-management”. Ability to continuously prioritize focus based on department needs.

— Stays up-to-date on contemporary trends in typography, color, iconography, layout and universally accepted UI design patterns.

— While this is not a coding role, a basic level of ability and understanding of HTML5, SASS, accessibility and data models is necessary - we are looking for someone who can design effectively for rapid development. Coding skills are a big plus.


Required Qualifications/Competencies:

— Portfolio should highlight a predominant focus on User Experience and demonstrate solid visual design skills. Demonstrated ability to produce wireframes, mockups, journey/workflow maps that are backed by thorough research.

— Fluency in best practices for information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design process, as well as strong knowledge of user experience principles and techniques.

— Experience in the implementation of atomic design principles and patterns.

— Portfolio should demonstrate strong responsive design skills and experience designing web applications that have shipped(not just static websites).

— Portfolio should contain at least at least 3-4 of responsive web app and/or mobile app projects that have shipped(not just static websites).

— Demonstrated ability to acquiring user data and performing user research(e.g. experience conducting usability studies is a big plus).

• Bachelor's Degree
• Adobe Creative Suite
• Wireframe and Prototyping Tools(Axure, Balsamiq, Invision, etc.)
• Basic ability/understanding of HTML5, SASS/CSS/data models/accessibility and genuine interested in learning.
Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:

• Ability to prototype in HTML & SASS is a plus.
• Experience working with CSS and/or javascript frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with user research and usability studies is a big plus.
• Healthcare experience is a plus.
• Experience designing for agile development (we move quickly).
