Mid-Level Online Creative Director

Our client is seeking a versatile online creative director to join a dynamic news operation that provides first-rate content to education policymakers and wider audiences.

We are seeking a proactive problem solver with fresh ideas, high journalistic standards, strong development skills, an appreciation of the user experience, and a passion for the latest trends and innovations in Web and user-interface design.

The Role Will Include:
• Working with Web, editorial, business, and research departments to develop concepts and designs for edweek.org that meet organizational objectives.
• Setting the creative direction of online products.
• Working with editorial and art colleagues to conceptualize and develop visually compelling interactive storytelling features.
• Participating in and leading various projects, such as work with databases, redesigns, user-generated content, and community building.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, or fields related to web design, and 4+ years related experience, preferably in a news/media/information organization.
• Experience with mobile/tablet design and multimedia.
• Commitment to bringing stories to life through graphics, digital games, and other digital platforms.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with editorial, art, photo, and Web production colleagues.
• Excellent time-management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Detail-oriented, deadline-focused, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Interest in and knowledge of education policy is a plus.

Technical Qualifications:
• Expert-level skill with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, is required.
• High proficiency in HTML/CSS/Javascript is required. Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and LESS/SASS is a plus. Experience with jQuery is a plus.
• Experience with responsive design.
• Thorough understanding of UX design principles. Experience with conducting usability studies is a plus.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical Web issues. Experience with Agile development is a plus.
• Experience or interest in front-end Web development a plus.
