Metadata Manager & Taxonomist
Major media client is in search of an experienced Metadata Manager to join the Digital Product Development team. This role is responsible for the designing & implementing of taxonomies as well as championing and leading the strategy, effectiveness and best practices of metadata as well as how data can enhance the experience & findability of digital properties.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate, assemble and maintain business and technical metadata across a variety of products - ecommerce, articles, video.
• Define and lead the implementation of metadata strategies to scale digital assets discovery and conversion.
• Own metrics related to metadata including quantity and type of descriptive attributes per asset, keyword relevancy, effectiveness, conversions and ROI.
• Analyze performance of metadata application and usage, including keyword trends around seasonality, language, geo-specific terms, etc.
• Partner closely with the Director of Content Strategy on how best to leverage our metadata for business growth.
• Collaborate with SEO & analytics team on metadata implementation & taxonomy improvements
• Act as a key resource for developers, QA and content teams in understanding data lineage of systems.
• Establish new metadata standards and values as required.
• Assign/edit/normalize appropriate metadata to assets in the system.
• Educate, train and promote the use of the metadata system (DAM) .
• Support on-going DAM user interface optimization/enhancements according to best practices & user feedback.
Skills
• Strong understanding of information organization architecture, digital asset management systems, database relationships, semantic modeling, metadata mapping and transformation
• Bachelors Degree required, with an emphasis in library or information science
• 3+ years of experience in a taxonomy, classification, or content management role
• Experience with indexing systems and search engines such as Solr
• Experience with digital media asset management
• Experience in eCommerce is a plus
• Comfortable in an agile environment of rapid iteration and experimentation, prototyping at various levels of fidelity.
• Ability to think strategically as well as manage the day-to-day tactics, working both independently and as part of a team
