Are you someone that loves data, stats and has proven experience dealing with the news media landscape- impressions, ad value and how to report on this? If so WE WANT YOU! Our client, one the nations largest non profit organizations, is in search for a Media Analyst to handle all quarterly reports to company executives, as well as create monthly reports that highlight the successes of the Media Relations team. The position is a long-term, contract role with benefits onsite in their DC office.

The Media Analyst will manage analytics for the Media Relations department in a proactive manner as well as manage tracking of social media twitter handle as well as performance in the media. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating reports that move beyond just impressions but demonstrate the impact of the Media Relations team. The Media Analyst will work with a high-level of autonomy in monitoring media trends, reporting media coverage and assisting senior staff with various media relations projects. This position will primarily report to the manager of Manager, Media Strategy and Metrics.

MUST HAVES:
· Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related discipline with 5-7 years of directly related experience preferred..
· 1-3 years of general work experience.
· 1-2 years of media relations or relevant media industry work experience.
· Excellent writing, organizational, and customer service skills.
· Interest in and/or familiarity with news media landscape
· Detail-oriented in a fast-paced multi-task environment is essential.

The Media Analyst’s primary responsibilities include analyzing social and traditional media trends and making recommendations, managing media reporting and developing additional briefings for senior staff as necessary. He/She will work with the media relations team in disseminating monthly and quarterly reports demonstrating the work of Media Relations.

Other Duties Include:
1. Fielding inquiries from the media relations phone and email to ensure they are sent to the appropriate media relations team member to handle in a timely manner.
2. Tracking media coverage and monitors relevant issues throughout the day, distributing reports appropriately.
3. Tracking AARP Media Relations twitter account
4. Proactively identifies and interprets media trends both social and traditional, and important stories, and distributes to appropriate internal audiences.
5. Creates monthly and quarterly media reports tracking trends on organization priorities, spokespersons and special projects and communicates findings using a variety of methods to ensure that media analyses are presented to internal audiences in a manner that maximizes understanding, credibility and use.
6. Consistently coordinates with stakeholders across the organization to ensure the media tracking and analyses are informing and enhancing our communications needs.
7. Secures key media coverage and maintains database for future reference, which includes media list building.
8. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.


Desired Minimum Work Experience:
• Working knowledge of media analytics, media monitoring platforms, media databases and basic web development technologies.
• Familiarity and comfort with managing and tracking social media.
• Strong communications skills, including writing and reporting.
• High degree of comfort working in fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience working in a collaborative team environment with designers and technical staff.
