Marketing Manager

Vitamin T client is the premier international education association in the United States. Its 10,000 members come from the 50 states and 150 other countries. The association is led by a Board of Directors from its membership that follows a strategic plan to determine priorities. A number of groups of member leaders implement programs and services, with the help of the Washington, DC-based staff.

General Responsibilities
The Marketing Manager will implement integrated promotional campaigns using traditional (direct mail, space advertising, exhibits, etc.) and nontraditional (Web site, Internet, e-mail, social media – professional networks, blog, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.) channels for the Association’s products and services, analyze and report on the effectiveness of campaigns, and assist in developing the annual budget. The work will support growth in membership, increase the sales of client's publications including the Adviser's Manual subscription service, books, and circulation development for International Educator magazine, and secure registrations for the annual conference & expo, professional development symposia, workshops and seminars. Marketing Manager interfaces with internal department staff and external vendors. Attention to detail, maintenance of schedules for multiple on-going projects, and ability to communicate expectations and timelines for projects are critical for this position.

Key Functions and Responsibilities
1. Manage marketing projects following strategies and plans developed in conjunction with the director, and ensure that project schedules are met.
• Manage relationships with internal graphic production, IT, and Web Services departments as well as external vendors for creative design, copywriting, mail-house, list brokers, for the implementation and the production of promotional campaigns and materials from concept through distribution.
• Obtaining necessary information from program managers, develop copy for promotional pieces and/or copyedit existing pieces of collateral as well as marketing content for the client's Web site.
• Coordinate copy/layout reviews and approvals with internal clients, following established guidelines for client style and brand.
• Monitor production budgets to ensure expenditures remain within budget parameters. Approve invoices for vendors on activities s/he has directed, following and departmental guidelines.
• Collect, review, and prepare statistical tracking reports on individual promotion efforts and report results against plan objectives. Maintain current and historical comparative data, competitive analysis and provides management reports as assigned.
2. Manage the schedule and production of HTML e-mail campaigns using ConstantContact (moving to Informz) for the design, transmission, and front-end tracking of campaign activity.
3. Conduct list research, acquire lists, and request and pull appropriate lists from client's iMIS database
4. Assist Marketing Director in development of:
• integrated marketing strategies and plans for internal clients and Vitamin T client's initiatives
• Annual budget and project budgets
• Marketing projects
5. Assist with market research, client's database research and analysis, and other duties as assigned.


Working Relationships
The marketing manager has considerable contact with other members of the staff. S/he also works with outside vendors. Excellent communication is required, as well as a high degree of professionalism and responsiveness, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects on time and within budget, and effectiveness in working with designers, copywriters, printers, mail-houses, and list brokers.

Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
• Five or more years of experience in marketing, advertising, or public relations.
• Thorough knowledge of marketing principles through course work and practical on-the-job experience.
• Strategic and tactical thinker.
• Knowledge of the print production process and experience working with designers, copywriters, printers, mail-house, and list brokers.
• Knowledge of marketing on the Web.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail; demonstrated ability to write effective promotional copy.
• Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet creation, and knowledge of electronic communication systems.
• Facility with numbers necessary for analytical work.
• Experience tracking project costs and performing account reconciliations.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working effectively with various levels of staff and volunteers to accomplish tasks.

Preferred:
• Database knowledge in IMIS, Access.
• Skill and experience in using HTML.
• Experience with e-marketing and publicity releases.
• Experience in association marketing and business-to-business.
