Marketing & Communications Manager

Our client is looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager for an onsite several month role, full-time 40 hours per week.

A. Strategic Communications: 
 Develop and implement: 
o Integrated marketing and strategic communications plans for the company, its subsidiaries, 
departments and special programs or initiatives 
o Industry advocacy and image awareness campaigns 
 Provide direction and input for web and social media plans and strategies, including website 
consolidation/redesign 
 Conceive, write, and edit materials for all channels – social, web, digital, and print 
 Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of plans, programs, and campaigns 
 Strengthen the company's corporate image and identity through knowledge and application of style 
and brand identity guidelines 
 Develop presentations 
 Develop and deliver strategic employee communications that engage and motivate staff toward 
the achievement of organizational goals 

B. Content Marketing: 
 Oversee content development initiatives across multiple platforms and formats. This includes: 
o Creating a content strategy and content calendar that addresses persona groups 
o Ensuring content is optimized for search and user experience for all channels 
o Working with subject matter experts to develop and/or repurpose existing content 

C. Public and Media Relations: 
 Monitor current issues and events affecting higher-education to identify opportunities 
 Respond to national and local media inquiries for information and referrals 
 Provide counsel on high-profile media inquiries to senior staff 
 Serve as a primary media spokesperson 
 Conduct extensive media outreach and develop and nurture positive media relationships 
 Prepare briefing materials, and arrange interviews with subject matter experts 
 Communicate, in collaboration with the other departments on policy 
positions on issues affecting the collegiate retailing industry 
 Work with various departments and subsidiaries to identify media relations opportunities 
 Conceive, write, edit, and distribute news releases, articles, and other collateral pieces 



 Provide on-site media support for the association’s major events 
 Write speeches, spokesperson guidelines, and message points for officers, key executives, 
volunteers, and staff. 
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: 
Required: 
•Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field. 
•5 years’ experience in marketing communications and/or public affairs. 
•Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
-Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. 
•Demonstrated thorough knowledge in effectively utilizing all forms of communications – social, web, 
digital, and traditional –, mass media, and public affairs. 
•Demonstrated ability to synthesize and assimilate information from a variety of sources in order to 
recommend courses of action to be taken. 
•Demonstrated expertise in developing communications plans, strategies, campaigns, and materials. 
•Proven ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts to individuals and groups. 
•Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. 
•Ability to gain the trust of key executives and volunteer leaders. 
•Must be able to work in excess of 40 hours per week as needed. 
•Requires independent judgment, discretion, tact, political finesse and consensus building skills.
