Managing Editor/Writer

The Managing Editor/Writer will be working for the Media & Publishing team within the Delivery Services department under the company’s Projects & Technology business unit. He/she will be responsible for the organization and management of a new internal technical periodical about the company’s research and development.

The successful candidate should have experience in managing publications, extensive technical writing, editing, and content development skills, knowledge of the oil and gas industry, broad computer technical skills, an aptitude for customer service, and an ability to work on a team.

Responsibilities
• Organize and manage a new publication based on a combination of two existing technical periodicals that reach company scientists, engineers and technicians throughout the world.
• Advise potential authors on what is acceptable subject matter for article submissions and ensure that the content has been through the necessary internal reviews.
• Provide guidance to ensure content is written in a language that non-specialist scientists and engineers can understand, facilitating cross-disciplinary communication.
• Enforce a rigorous approach to content with support from the editorial board that includes Discipline Heads and Chief Scientists.
• Serve as secretary to the board, setting the agenda for meetings, which will take place at least twice a year.
• Conduct surveys to determine performance of the publication.
• Promote the publication internally by placing announcements in company internal communication channels.
• Ensure compliance with company policies regarding intellectual property, information security, copyright, and export control.
• Interact with authors and other team members when necessary to gain clarification.
• Determine turnaround times and scope of work.
• Offer suggestions for improving and simplifying the processes.
• Interact with remote team members globally by adapting to their work schedules and styles.
