Junior Merchandiser

My client is looking for a Junior Merchandiser to assist the Merchandise Planning Manager to achieve the Related Products department operating plan, by delivering a balanced and credible product offer, which exceeds customer expectations and is appropriate for the target market. Contribute a strong trading ethos to the team, to achieve sales and profit targets in a manner appropriate to the brand.

- Under the direction of the Merchandise Planning Manager ensure all products are planned, bought and launched in store to meet strict deadlines.
- Assist in proactive stock management – OTB/purchase budget control, store allocation, managing sell through, and minimizing markdown.
- Deputise for the Merchandise Planning Manager in his/her absence, and be a positive influence / role model for junior team members.

The RP Junior Merchandiser reports into the Related Products Merchandise Planning Manager. The Junior Merchandiser will be expected to take on line management responsibility for the RP Allocator (tbc)


The job holder should have:
• At least 2 years experience as an Assistant Merchandiser, ideally from a reputable high street retailer.
•Excellent commercial awareness and judgement with strong attention to detail.
•An understanding of Allocation and Branch Merchandising principles, with the ability to put the customer at the forefront of all decisions.
•Strong planning and organisation skills – able to take responsibility for managing own workload in a fast paced environment to meet strict deadlines.
•Experience of managing and developing more junior team members
•Be able to confidently communicate both upwards and laterally within the business.
•Innovation and creativity to find new ways to improve the sales and profitability of RP

Technical Skills
•Advanced MS Excel essential (Pivot Tables, Macros etc). Basic understanding of MS Access would be helpful.
•Critical path management experience in a complex and fast paced environment.
• Very strong sales analysis and forecasting skills combined with good commercial trading instincts.
•Good understanding of WSSI’s,OTBs and allocation and replenishment parameters.
•Project management skills

Range Building and Planning
• With guidance from the Merchandise Planning Manager, work together with Buying counterpart to create a profitable financial framework for own part of the range. Constantly review and adapt the range planning parameters to achieve overall cash margin targets.
• Ensure that all range builds are optimal for the target market by balancing price architecture, continuity/risk profile and category, colour, style mixes throughout the store chain
• Use market and customer information together with historical data and forward trends to assist in the development of the departments phased plans.
• Develop a strong understanding of the importance of store grading when building the optimal range.
• Monitor critical path for the development and delivery of all product ranges, highlighting areas of risk to senior management team.
• Support the Merchandiser in the presentation of range reviews and sign offs for senior management. Take the lead in presenting own part of the range for review.

Pre Range Launch Planning
• Prepare consistent Line Lists and forecast sheets to ensure that all new products are ordered in a tttttimely manner, consistent with departmental plans and forecasts.
• Oversee product creation, including bibliographic information and set up of pack and single barcodes, ensuring links are in place where needed.
• Ensure that initial launches are thoroughly planned to maximise sales, profit and store space and take market grading into account before approval by Merchandise Planning Manager.
• Confidently manage the Allocator to ensure that scale outs are uploaded in an accurate and timely manner.
• Set up and management of replenishment sheets for applicable products / ranges.

Stock/Inventory Management
• Plan, forecast and manage the intake of stock across all areas of responsibility in order to achieve required stock levels, sales and terminal stock targets and make proposals for markdown activity.
• Monitor stock availability to ensure launch and replenishment dates are met, and that sales are potentialised through thorough robust intake planning in conjunction with In Stock Manager and Hub Supply team.
• Oversee and confirm suggested weekly replenishment orders before these are sent to suppliers.
• Monitor store availability for own ranges, and take action as needed to maintain this to an acceptable level.
• Review and make recommendations for re balancing or rescheduling of commitment.
• Maintain list of stock held items at the Hub, ensuring that these reflect commercial performance.
• Assist the Merchandise Planning Manager to manage stock flow through the Hub, resolving any issues as they arise.
• Continually review on-going allocation of products to optimize distribution and minimize residual stocks.

Trading & Analysis
• Produce timely, accurate and effective analysis on sales, stock, cash margin and any ad hoc analysis as directed by the Merchandise Planning Manager or Head of Buying.
• Analyse weekly trading performance to identify trends against plans, making commercial recommendations, and prepare and present these confidently to senior members of the department.
• Propose innovative solutions for poor performance and react quickly to maximise best sellers.
• Continually review team reporting and analysis to ensure it provides maximum insight. Share best practice with other team members, particularly Assistant Merchandisers.
• Any other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate by line manager or senior management
