Role Purpose

This role is an opportunity to join a fast paced, innovative and highly regarded team which provides analysis and insights to the UK business on the devices, software and cloud services markets. The role encompasses a broad mix of pre-planned and more reactive ad hoc work, and the team partners with almost every area of Microsoft’s business in the UK. The role offers significant scope for learning and professional development, and the new analyst will be guided and supported by the UK MI leader and the rest of the team.

Team/Department Mission
The MI team supports the business groups and UK leadership team with analysis and insights to enable them to make informed decisions and understand market trends, opportunities and threats. The MI team is part of the Business Planning & Operations department which also has responsibility for leading UK subsidiary business planning, scorecard management and the licensing business group.

Key Accountabilities

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Deliver analysis of devices, software and cloud services market information to provide high value and highly actionable insights (working with the UK MI lead and other team members)
• Provide highly responsive support to ad hoc queries and requests
• Liaise with internal stakeholders (product and partner teams, sales leaders and others) to understand needs and requests, and ensure we meet or exceed their expectations
• Liaise with external suppliers (industry analyst firms and research agencies) to help manage requests and projects, and develop long term relationships
• Update and enhance regular MI reports and deliverables
• Maintain and enhance the UK MI resource centre (currently an internal SharePoint site)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1) Essential Experience

• Strong analytical experience, including the ability to source, integrate, structure, and critically assess information from multiple sources
• Experience of proposing and debating a point of view based on sound research and analysis
• Experience of presenting the results of analysis and thinking in a clear and digestible manner (whether in written forms or orally)
• Experience of working with large data sets
• Ideally, experience of working in a large matrix organization and a fast-paced environment

2) Technical/Functional Skills

• High degree of competence with Microsoft Office especially Excel (including pivot tables)
• Ideally some familiarity with primary research methods

3) Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

• Highly numerate - capable and confident with numbers including basic statistics
• Strong attention to detail and quality - but also able to work at a good pace and deliver to deadlines
• Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects at the same time, and to manage respective priorities and deadlines
• Creative, resourceful and determined
• Confident, personable and articulate
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong intellectual curiosity and desire to learn
• Keen to improve how things are done, and confident to challenge existing views or approaches where appropriate
• Positive attitude, keen to take on new challenges and get things done
• Interest in the technology industry, and an interest in economic and current affairs

4) Qualifications
• Educated to degree level with an upper second class (2:1) degree or higher, or an equivalent qualification
• Ideally at least one of mathematics, statistics or economics to A level or above (or equivalent)
