Seeking a Junior Graphic Designer – Corporate Communications

A large utilities client in Pearl River is looking for a Junior Graphic Designer to join their team. The successful candidate should have a portfolio that demonstrates a creative and dynamic approach to design, and have experience in both print and web. He or she must have strong interpersonal and written communication skills and, above all, be a team player able to interface with multiple departments, clients, vendors, consultants and technical support personnel.

Required skills and experience include: strong design and creative skills; the ability to generate new ideas and concepts; a strong command of formats, typography, graphics and layout; technical expertise in Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel; experience in producing infographics; ability to design and create charts and tables in Adobe Illustrator; photography, retouching and manipulation; exhibition design skills, including mounting and framing of art.

Knowledge and experience in the following are a plus: SharePoint and SharePoint Designer; design and production of apps.

Educational requirements: Applicant must possess one of the following three combinations of education and experience in graphic, print and interactive design in a design studio or corporate environment:
(1) BFA in design or related field experience;
(2) Associate’s degree in design or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience;
(3) High school diploma and a minimum of 4 years of experience.

Core Responsibilities: The junior designer will work with the Section Manager – Corporate Communications to design, develop and produce print and digital communications. He or she will be responsible to create brochures, bill inserts, email blasts, posters, invitations, newsletters, conference materials, E-board postings, signage, displays, logos, illustrations for infographics, icons, charts, graphs, maps, tables, banner ads, and Web pages. This employee will interact with internal clients in a fast-paced environment that requires managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines, troubleshooting issues that arise with excellent attention to detail and a proactive commitment to follow through.

This position will be contract, full-time and onsite for 3-6 months. After this period, the successful candidate will convert to a full-time employee of the utility and will then be eligible to work remotely/from home on a PT basis.
