Jr. Publicist

Aquent is looking for a Jr. Publicist to join our client's in-house team. The Junior Publicist will be responsible for supporting and facilitating internal and external corporate communications, government affairs, program publicity, talent management, social media, and events management programs to promote brand presence and drive ratings. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the team in developing original campaigns to draw media attention to the best programming as well as maintaining and growing internal and external relationships that foster brand-building opportunities for key business initiatives and programming. This position supports a team of four and reports to the Director, International Communications and is based in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support team in efforts to promote global networks, managing global and international programming and promotable priorities.
• Create publicity toolkits and timelines for original productions, partner with U.S. counterparts on coordination of global campaigns for global and international commissions/co-productions. Pull together post-campaign coverage reports. Coordinate on-going publicity efforts and liaise with Talent Management for interviews and appearances.
• Draft corporate materials including key messages, press releases, boiler plates, fast facts, executive bios, etc. that support internal and external positioning. Maintain all communications vehicles monthly/quarterly/as-needed.
• Help manage all logistical aspects of internal and external international events.
• Coordinate internal communications to ensure consistent employee awareness of programs and initiatives including drafting stories, arranging profiles and updating department pages.
• Support internal and external corporate communications activities for International program sales and consumer licensing. Provide support at industry trade show events.
• Manage internal reporting tools including corporate and publicity highlights reports, corporate press clippings reports, hot topics and corporate update.
• Build and sustain working international industry trade media list and international industry/trade award submissions. Consistently explore editorial opportunities for increased cable trade press coverage (e.g. monitor trade press editorial plans to ensure Discovery’s networks inclusion in all applicable trade stories), and maintain editorial calendar to be shared with department.
• Manage all online assets including corporate website, intranet, virtual library, image tracker, job tracker and Press Web.

Requirements:
• 2-4 years related communications/publicity work experience required.
• Bachelor's degree required. Communications, journalism or related field preferred. International and/or media experience a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines within the budgetary constraints, and to handle multiple projects simultaneously and autonomously.
• Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential, as is an ability to think creatively and generate new ideas.
• Complexity of the role – strong attention to detail and responsiveness are critical because of the high visibility of this team’s work within the company.
• Must be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player and willing to take on additional responsibilities as necessary; ability to make judgment calls and offer expert guidance/recommendations to clients on communications efforts.
• Ability to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with members of the media and with coworkers.
• Need to be available to serve as contact for team and for team leadership, and responsive to requests often outside of normal business hours.
• Willingness to travel
