Jr. Copy Editor/Proofreader

The Copy Editor/Proofreader will work in the Brand Marketing Department and will support the Graphics and Web teams with ongoing projects. Consumer, Retail, Special Markets, Events, OEM, Programming, Corporate Communication and Public Relations all require contact and support from this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Substantively edits and evaluates first drafts from originators for various marketing communications; involves fact checking, and reviewing layout and pagination to ensure accuracy and consistency with the corporate vision.

• Proofreads, reviews and edits materials for accurate use of grammar and content for both online and offline marketing communications; assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the corporate style guide for grammar and usage and enforces its content with partners and vendors.

• Ensures that brand logo and brand guidelines are adhered to in all marketing communications.

• Suggest edits to copy to adhere to brand guidelines.

• Assists in traffic and production tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in marketing, advertising, journalism or a related field.

Requirements and General Skills:

• Knowledge of standard concepts and procedures within marketing or advertising disciplines for proofreading and copy editing.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and the ability to work on complex projects concurrently and meet deadlines.

• Creative and technical writing skills.

• Familiar with AP guidelines as well as Chicago Manual of Style.

• Thorough knowledge of the rules of grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation.

• Highly organized, able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and deadline oriented work environment.

• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

• Adhere to project timelines and meet scheduled deadlines.

• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Commitment to “internal client” and customer service principles.

• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Technical Skills:

• Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.

• InDesign knowledge a plus.
