IxD Lead

At Creative agency, we have two types of leads- project leads and craft leads. The project leads are generally the Service Design Leads (SDLs) who own the project creatively and are ultimately responsible for that part of the business. SDLs are assigned per projects and change regularly.

The Interaction Design Lead (IDL) is a craft leads and own their discipline as a whole inside their studios. They are, essentially, the gatekeeper of craft and are responsible for the quality of the studio’s output.

The IxD Lead takes an active roles in the management of their craft design team and are the heavily involved in team building- from performance management to vetting and on boarding new hires.

Design Leads must have an in-depth knowledge and experience of product and service design and complex service ecosystems coupled with a deep knowledge of delivery platforms, cutting edge technology developments and the marketplace.

They have a key role in ensuring the highest level of innovation and creativity for the service concepts and user interfaces created. They have a good understanding of visual design. They can lead design projects and pitches as well as provide inspiring and credible direction to other designers. They can interpret client and consumer needs, effectively communicate and present design concepts and possess a good commercial awareness.

They report to the Service Design Director.

We expect the successful Design Lead candidates to have 8+ years experience of delivering interface design solutions for various clients. The candidate must thrive working in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the studio’s craft output, ensuring each deliverable is of the highest quality.
• Partner with Service Design Director & HR to identify new talent and take an active and lead role in the hiring process.
• Take a day-to-day management role of the designers assigned as direct reports.
• Regularly support client projects as the senior craft designer on the project team.
• Mentor all design team members and encourage their growth and creative development.
• Own and facilitate guild meetings that identify design techniques, inspiration and new technologies relevant to our work.
• With support from the Program Management team, conduct interim project reviews before significant project milestones to ensure quality of output
• Provide support to business development and Program Management in scoping new projects- including articulating the approach, deliverables, timeline and team requirements.
• Provide feedback on design team to their line managers for mid year and year end reviews, including opportunities for their creative development and improvement of technical capabilities.
• Facilitate and contribute to the creation, adoption and improvement of design ‘patterns’ and guidelines and their consistent deployment across various projects.
• Manage and maintain team motivation and morale.
• Engage with and direct freelancers, interns or visiting enlisted to support the project team, as and when required.
• Identify and resolve or escalate issues and conflicts within the project team.

Other Responsibilities:

• Assume a leadership role in the studio and actively promote Creative agency’s We Are One Values.
• Give feedback on work and balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, inputs to arrive at a final design solution.
• Seek out opportunities for self-development.
• Seek out opportunity to promote Creative agency.
• Effectively manage personal administration such as time reporting, expense submission etc.
• Engage with and work within changing multi-disciplinary teams.
• Actively demonstrate and inspire colleagues to develop and maintain open honest and trusting relationships.
• Continually strive to exceed client expectations.
• Communicate in a clear, consistent and transparent manner.
• Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Adhere to procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment & materials provided.
• Perform other related duties as and when required.

Required Background and Skills:

• At least 8 + years relevant industry experience.
• In possession of a relevant degree or professional qualification(s).
• Proficient in and/or knowledge of relevant software packages i.e.
Photoshop and Illustrator, In Design, Flash, 3D graphics packages, and motion graphics software such as After Effects.
• Experience creating and/or managing prototype development.
• Demonstrable skills in illustration, photography, or diagrammatic expertise (information visualisation) and iconography are an advantage.
• Able to present concepts and justify design decisions.
• Able to multi-task and perform well under pressure.
• Demonstrable attention to detail.
