Internal IT Communications Specialist

Communications Specialist Job Description:

You will be responsible for providing complex communications consultation, planning, solution recommendation and implementation for a project impacting multiple diverse stakeholder groups across Client’s IT organization. You will work with a variety of personnel to achieve consensus, develop communication plans, tailor messages for specific audiences and ensure consistency of messages. You will work under the direction of a manager.

Top 3 - 5 Daily responsibilities:
• Work with key stakeholders to create and execute a communication strategy and plan.
• Drive all aspects of project/program communications (e.g., newsletters, stakeholder materials, go-live communications, materials for workshops and brown bag sessions, and content for communications sites).
• Be fully engaged in project to successfully craft communication deliverables based on project/program goals, priorities and limitations.

Essential Functions:
• Excellent communication and writing/editorial skills
• Participates in the development and implementation of strategies for effective program and project communications across various levels of the organization
• Research and write communication plans; executes all or portions of plans, making presentations, convening meetings and conducting training sessions
• Write and edit straightforward and simple content for project including materials for newsletters, web sites, tool kits, and other forms of internal and external communications to support clients’ strategic communications requirements
• Write, produce and oversee the distribution of all project communications and stakeholder presentations, including workshops and roadshows to other organizations
• Produce visual as well as written communications; recognizes the benefits of each and when a particular approach will deliver a given message more effectively
• Coordinate, as needed, presentation preparations, including speeches and talking points, researching and analyzing information, planning logistics, graphic presentation and overall coordination
• Edit written documents prepared by others, including technical documents
• Proofreads and coordinates production of communications materials; ensures final placement of materials, including distribution, and provides miscellaneous follow up
• Updates content on client-specific and project Intranet web pages
• Aligns communications using Client style guidelines

Basic Qualifications:
• Five to seven years of progressive editorial experience in an OCM, communications or public affairs support role within a complex national organization or with a communications/public relations firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent experience.

Requirements:
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
• Experience using SharePoint a plus.
• Creative problem solver with ability to grasp and communicate technical nuances.
• Experience leading or participating in an organizational change management effort desired; understands the role of communications in OCM.

Desired skills:
Understanding of basic IT concepts, ability to think strategically, ability to understand concepts quickly and develop project communications and targeted messaging. Ability to develop stakeholder assessments and recommendations on communication vehicles for key messages.
