Internal Communications Specialist

Our large financial services client located in Northbrook, IL is looking immediately for an Internal Communications Specialist for a long-term temporary assignment. This position is a 12-month opportunity to start.

For this Internal Communications Specialist role, we need someone who has strong internal communication skills, has really good writing skills, and ideally this person will have written for or supported an internal technical or IT team. You should like to write for a variety of audiences and be able to take a more technical message and apply it to a wide range of audiences. These audiences could be the internal team, internal employees or external global audiences.

Responsibilities:
• Develops communications content.
o Develops error-free strategically targeted written communications that meet the client's requirements, create understanding of complex subject matter, and effectively uses language in an innovative and creative way to reinforce key messages.
o Prepares publication materials, employee communications, newsletters, and informational materials for internal or external audiences.
o Creates content outlines for moderately complex items and those pieces that are standard-setting for broad initiatives or that require solutions that are more strategic, imaginative and thorough. Creates, designs, and writes moderately-complex publication materials, employee communications, newsletters, and informational materials for internal or external audiences.

• Communications plans and tactics:
o Participates in strategic planning sessions regarding root cause analysis of business issues and/or opportunities that lead to the development of Strategic Communications Plans.
o Applies functional knowledge to assist with the creation and execution of strategic communications plans; leads small to moderate specific plan segments with consultation from others.
o Has a clear understanding of the business issues and uses communication to help solve organizational problems and achieve organizational objectives.
o Edits/reviews self/others’ Communications Plans.

• Coordinates and executes communications meetings and events
o Designs, develops and executes communications meeting and events.
o Identifies and secures speakers for events and coordinates schedules.

• Identifies communications measures and metrics to ensure desired outcomes and alignment to business goals.
o Assists with Communication metric reporting. Measures and evaluates results of communication approach.
o Contributes ideas on metrics improvements.

• Develops and maintains effective partnerships.
o Builds a network of contacts; develops and maintains cross-organizational relationships.
o Works with colleagues from across the organization to achieve better results.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of communication planning and writing experience.

Candidates will demonstrate the following personal and professional attributes:
• Exceptional writing skills across a range of disciplines (global messaging, letters, scripts, etc).
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Comfortable in taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision.
• Creative skills and ability to analyze and integrate client needs into an effective deliverable
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Strategic thinking skills
• Ability to understand how organizational change management is applied to the people side of change

Software Skills Needed:
– MS Word and PowerPoint
– Plus to know SharePoint and/or OneNote.

Typical Day: Generally 8:30-5:00 onsite. Organized multitasker who likes working on a variety or projects. Most likely will be managing 5-6 projects on an ongoing basis.
