Start: Ideally September (open until filled)
Type of Role: Contract to Hire

We’re looking for a talented Interaction/UX Designer who can dive in and help drive the overall user experience products and services. You’ll work on a multi-disciplinary team of program managers/business analysts, technical writers, and a community manager (to close the feedback loop). As the Interaction Designer, you’ll own and have ultimate accountability for the usability, accessibility, and visual delight of software and services. The content about a content tool matters, so you’ll also have a say in the information architecture and content strategy, including how user assistance fits into the user experience.

This team is a user-centered design team working in a globally distributed, iterative, agile software development environment. Their user-centered design philosophy extends across the company, from feature definition (personas and user stories/scenarios) through testing and user documentation, and even sales, implementation, and product support. The Senior Interaction Designer will stand at the core of our user-centered design efforts.

Key responsibilities

· Collaborate with program managers/business analysts, technical writers, and developers to define the user experience for software and services.

· Contribute to the identification and definition of personas and user stories/scenarios.

· Create UI mockups, wireframes, and interactive prototypes based on business requirements and user stories/scenarios.

· Define the visual language for products and services and create icons and other graphical elements to support the design direction.

· Establish and document design principles, visual guidelines, accessibility requirements, and other UX standards for others in the organization to follow.

· Contribute to the definition of usability testing processes (A/B testing, card sorts, etc.) and execute usability tests for new and existing product functionality.

· Identify sources of user/customer data, such as usage metrics and community feedback, and then analyze the data with team members to provide recommendations for improvement to new or existing product behaviors.

· Assist in implementing basic improvements to web and print deliverables.

Required experience & qualifications

· 3 or more years’ experience in a software interaction design or user experience design role.

· Bachelor’s degree in Information Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors Engineering (HFE), or equivalent education and/or experience.

· Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines in an agile/iterative software development process without losing sight of longer-term goals or the big picture.

· A stellar portfolio that illustrates strong “solo” design results as well as collaborative design efforts.

· Proficiency with a variety of UX design and rapid/“low-fidelity” prototyping tools such as Balsamiq Mockups, Microsoft Visio & PowerPoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferred experience & qualifications

· Experience designing for mobile, tablet, and other touch-enabled devices.

· 3-5 years’ experience creating and customizing HTML and CSS deliverables.

· Ability to mentor and coach others in the organization on design/UX best practices.

· An ego that gives you self-confidence and self-motivation without sacrificing the ability to contribute meaningfully to collaborative team efforts.

· Experience with Agile software methodologies and tools, such as JIRA from Atlassian.

· Willingness to pitch in and get the job done, even if it means stepping outside your comfort zone.
