Interaction Design Manager
Internal Order Info: In this role, you’ll coach your team on their projects from inception to launch enabling them to best meet user needs and business goals. You’ll identify and implement process improvements and design methodologies that will make the UX group more efficient and effective. You’ll mentor the interaction designers on your team with the goal of enhancing their abilities, expanding possibilities of their designs, and helping them achieve a fulfilling career path. As a highly collaborative leader, the successful candidate will also work with leaders across the company in product, engineering, marketing, Q/A, etc to ensure the vision for the user experience is realized. You’ll report to the Head of User Experience.

Responsibilities
• Responsible for people management – career development, performance, and coaching
• Have a clear understanding of roadmap priorities across the business and deliver on those priorities while maintaining the holistic vision
• Validate project scopes and staff projects with interaction design resources as appropriate
• Effectively manage and assign priorities and workloads; forecast staffing needs
• Lead patterns and standards work
o Take ownership of the UI pattern library and its evolution so that it is fully optimized and leveraged by the development teams
o Provide regular pattern updates and rollouts to impacted teams
o Ensure patterns are always current and up-to-date
o Lead a team of cross-functional designers responsible for pattern creation and maintenance
o Participate in substantial hands-on pattern design and documentation

• Work closely with Head of UX to evangelize the power of end-to-end customer experiences that delight and execute on that vision
• Contribute to the methodology for our iterative, value-centered design processes that benefits both users and the business
• Review and approve designs for all projects to ensure a holistic approach to design across experience
• Stay informed on latest news, trends and developments associated with being a design professional and share learnings with team including leading internal UX workshop sessions as necessary

Desired Leadership Skills
• Build and manage an outstanding team of interaction designers that you’ll mentor to create world-class interfaces that support and reinforce our product vision, brand, and business objectives
• Introduce, develop, and ensure best design practices, processes and communicate quality expectations organizationally
• Demonstrate a command of design methods, tools, communication, and presentation skills
• Work with UX management to define the vision for the user experience and deliver that vision through the UI framework; follow through with the communication, processes and tactics to implement the vision
• Build respect and credibility with stakeholders, management peers, direct reports, and executives

Requirements
• At least 2 years experience managing design teams and track record of building successful design teams
• At least 6 years of professional design experience
• Bachelor's or Master’s in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or related field
• Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web and mobile, technology trends, demonstrable design skills, and ability to show relevant work
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in small and large groups, to all levels of the organization, as well as outside of the organization
• Proven ability to help designers create better designs and become better designers
• Strong skills in problem definition and user-needs analysis, including the ability to focus on the "right" problems to solve in order to advance of strategic goals
• Experience with Agile development processes preferred
• Portfolio demonstrating superior design skills. Please indicate your specific roles and contributions for each project submitted as part of the portfolio
• Passion for simplifying designs and stripping out complexity
• Demonstrated ability to identify, hire and retain highly talented designers
• Experience with pattern standards & guidelines including accessibility
