Instructional Designer / Captivate Developer

This TOP fortune 500 company, head-quartered in Boston, that specializes in online database software for small businesses is revolutionizing the way people work by enabling professionals to develop their own cloud-based applications for driving vastly improved work productivity. The team is building a new Customer Training group and hiring a contract Captivate Courseware Developer / Instructional Designer to design and develop instructional material for web based delivery that supports and enables long term customer success.

Salary: Up to $50.96/hr DOE
Duration: 6 months (with opportunity to extend)
Location: Cambridge, MA

The ideal candidate – Demonstrates advanced skills in the use of Adobe Captivate (Versions 8 & 9) to design and develop dynamic and engaging web based learning content. A template will be designed to effectively manage hundreds of planned titles with minimal effort. The candidate demonstrates and utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills. Can independently develop entry and advanced level courses primarily for an external customer audience. Is able to expertly leverage and apply multimedia technology and authoring tools including Captivate. Naturally works cross functionally with key subject matter experts to determine the needs of the course and appropriate method of delivery. Is metric oriented with a lens on measuring content effectiveness.


Advanced Adobe Captivate skills including variables, actions, complex templates & responsive design

Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), requirements and related standards

Working knowledge of current Web programming tools including HTML5, JavaScript, CSS

Technical Communication and Writing

Proven track record applying Instructional Design concepts and principles

Software Training experience

Multimedia expertise with web based animation, audio, and video

Curriculum and course development

Ability to understand and communicate complex concepts quickly and accurately

Ability to work both independently and cross functionally with a team

High attention to detail 

Ability to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines 


    *Prefer troubleshooting experience 

    *Able to quickly learn company technology 


Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design/related subject. Work experience considered

Minimum of five years of Captivate and instructional design and/or technical writing experience. 


*QuickBase experience is a plus

    *Adobe Captivate

    *Project management tools 

    *Multimedia authoring tools

*Learning management platforms
