Information Architect /Taxonomist

Our client, a leading technology-based, Fortune 500 company based in northern Virginia has an immediate need for a Information Architect with a laser focus in TAXONOMY. This has potential to convert to full time. The ideal candidate will develop and work with OEOM team to implement new taxonomy that supports the client's information architecture model.

YOU will have previously worked with a large organization developing a taxonomy-based information architecture that enables users to easily navigate to their content both within the site and the content management system that supports it.

The person who fills this role will work with the client's OEOM/UX team in further development of new IA model.

Job Responsibilities:
* Consult with OEOM to review objectives and provide project plan.
* Interview participants/stakeholders to ID goals/needs. Determine: “what problem are we trying to solve?”
* Identify lists of business terms or other organizational structures as well as documentation that is appropriate for analysis and development of vocabularies.
* Generate complete content inventory and determine how to process inventory results.
* Review metrics, ForSee comments, Help desk, Contact Analytics, etc., to gain understanding of users’ context of need, their information retrieval behavior and their digital literacy.
* Analyze data collected and content inventory.
* Review for word usage, term consistency, term relationships, etc.
* Review gathered vocabularies and other documentation for potential new vocabulary.
* Determine the best implementation strategy and provide a report specifying recommendations, scope and schedule.
* Prepare and present content analysis and metadata specification.
* Prepare initial metadata specification.
* Identify additional information and resources required for project to begin, and agreed upon next steps.
* Develop alpha (top-level) taxonomy, 2-3 levels deep.
* Review, revise and reach consensus on alpha taxonomy with participants/stakeholders.
* Develop beta (drill-down) taxonomy.
* Review, revise and reach consensus on beta taxonomy with participants/stakeholders. Since this is a deeper effort, taxonomy may be divided up into sections for review by SMEs in those areas.
* Implement taxonomy in categorization application.
* Test and tune using statistical methodologies.
* Provide taxonomy use and maintenance guidelines
* Train users and maintainers.
* Provide tested and approved taxonomy with finalized documentation, outlining all aspects.
* Provide expertise, analysis and support to help OLS optimize the experience for users navigating and searching for information on the client's website for a period of 6 months, post-deployment.

Deliverables for this role include:
* Briefing presentation on metadata, taxonomies, methodologies and tools (phase 1)
* Content inventory spreadsheets (phase 1)
* Presentation on content analysis (phase 1)
* Comprehensive taxonomy with approx. 1500 terms and as many as 6000 nodes (phase 2)
* Validation of taxonomy (phase 3)
* Business process and documentation for maintaining taxonomy (phase 3)
* Training materials to teach how to tag content using the taxonomy (principles, tagged example content, etc.) (phase 3)
