Industrial Designer (Retail)

Our Fortune 500 Client is seeking an Industrial designer that could help on a few projects here and there during the year. (average 10 - 20 hours per week). This person would be mainly responsible to design textile (bags) or molded products. (drink ware and / or writing instruments) The products would need to remain simple (nothing luxurious that require expensive materials) but still with some design. Our ideal person would  have a good understanding of materials and ideally the production of it to make it cost effective. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Concept on existing products and product ideas to develop innovative, ergonomic, user-friendly designs that attract consumers.
  • Coordinate the look and function of product lines. 
  • Draft sketches and illustrations of potential products or work on enhancing an existing product to make it more appealing to consumers. 
  • Use blueprints, detailed drawings, or computer-aided designs to demonstrate product potential. 
  • Fabricate models using samples. 
  • Revise models according to client specifications. 
  • Research design trends and product limitations. 
  • Work with engineering, marketing, production, and/or sales departments to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products. 
  • Present designs to client for approval. 
  • Perform research on appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics. 
  • Research cost of production materials and labor to produce product. 
  • Develop manufacturing protocol. 
  • Develop industrial standards and regulatory guidelines. 
  • Create trademarks to appear on advertising materials or company marketing collateral. 
  • Create machine-readable instructions for further clarification. 

Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in industrial design, architecture, or engineering
  • Experience working with overseas a strong plus 
  • 5+ years of experience 
  • Experience designing textiles is required. Hard goods experience is a plus. 
  • Product development with soft goods and consumer field of industrial design
  • Experience in all aspect of new product creation: market analysis, strategy and product design 
  • Excellent communication skills. Communicate ideas both verbally and visually. 
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and able to work independently with a creative mindset and with results-focus in a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong 3D modeling/rendering software, computer-aided industrial design and CAD programs proficiency 
  • Adobe Creative Suite proficiency 
  • Great concept sketching and ideation skills
