Job Purpose:
Determine correct index words to apply to existing and new products. Edit index entries and product links as needed to improve search and select. Meet catalog production and product introduction deadlines.

Job Description:
• Work on special projects as needed, for example, transferring index words and links to products from existing sources to our current database and improving consistency of indexing for similar items
• Understand index standards and document all standard additions and
• Follow index standards when creating new index entries and editing existing ones, making it easier for customers to select the right product
• Accurately describe company’s products by attaching index entries to SKUs in the catalog management system
• Review catalog index proofs, editing to improve consistency of page numbers shown and to increase ease of use
• Make index error report and index proof corrections in catalog management system

Index Work:
• 1+ years experience with indexing
• Experience researching index issues, for example, comparing company’s indexing to competitors’, checking supplier Web sites, and consulting company’s staff
• Prior work evaluating proposed index entries for alignment with company’s standards and current industry usage

Industrial Supplies Background:
• 2+ years experience with industrial supplies. Prefer industrial supplies indexing experience, but would consider candidates with knowledge of how customers would search for maintenance, repair, and operating supplies. For example, prior work as a purchaser, proofreader for tools catalogs, or as a construction contractor would be a plus
• Easily develops basic understanding of various product types and how customers choose them
