Graphic Designer with Infographics/Data Visualization

Our client, one of the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations with a membership of more than 37 million needs a Graphic Designer for a full-time, long-term contract in their Washington, DC office.

MUST HAVES:
• Strong portfolio of creative design samples and processes
• Infographics and Data Visualization experience and samples of work
• Ability to create/contribute conceptual ideas and pitch ideas, solicit feedback, and make decisions on how best to complete assignments
• Self-Starter who is driven and passionate
• Ability to provide basic skills training and guidance to individuals who have an interest in graphic facilitation and visual layout

The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing or creating graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as PowerPoint presentations, brochures, Congressional leave behind, fact sheets or print products. Creates layout specifications and animation for electronic products. May use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects. Must have knowledge of the latest computer packages and an understanding of material costs and time limits, all of which can impact on the design. Responsible for archiving and retrieving artwork and electronic files as well as saving files to the company shared drive for future usage. Manage projects to budget and schedule. Work well in a team with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, website designers and marketing specialists.

The Graphic Designer will be tasked with creating visual content to depict the successes and accomplishments of the State and National Group. The designer will work with various internal and external sources to create engaging content including presentations, photos, videos, graphics, infographics, and data visualization. The SNG graphic designer will be assigned projects based on upcoming presentation schedules, conferences and internal meetings. The designer will work with a number of staff members inside the group to gather data for projects. Applicants should be self-starters who are not afraid to pitch ideas, solicit feedback, and make decisions on how best to complete assignments. The designer will also be asked to work with staff members who have an interest in graphic facilitation and visual layout to provide basic skills training and guidance on projects.

Technical Skills - Requirements
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite design programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the proven ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously with multiple audiences and against deadline.
• Ability to analyze data and information and make decisions and/or recommendations on how to show the data visually.
• Willingness to experiment and try different techniques to reach the desired result
• Ability to communicate the meaning and rational behind the design creative
• A portfolio that illustrates digital graphic design work
• Writing samples to show candidates ability to synthesize complex data
