The Stats & Information Group (SIG) is a deadline-driven, exciting work environment specializing in information dissemination across the company and directly to fans. Our content is used across multiple platforms – television, digital media, radio, The Magazine, and Mobile. We are comprised of four departments: BottomLine, Production Analytics, Production Research and Stats & Analysis.

The Part-Time Publishing/Design Specialist will play a significant role across the company, leading the Stats & Information Group’s collaborative efforts across every platform to depict our industry-leading, differentiating content as clear and elegant graphics. The best candidate will be a creative storyteller who can drive results, from idea generation through publication. Collaboration with TV and Digital + Print designers on clear visuals, using modern graphic design theory including typography, composition and hierarchy, will be essential.

Beyond creating graphics, the Publishing/Design Specialist will be the main SIG graphics liaison across all platforms, working with key stakeholders across TV, digital and print platforms to ensure the consistency, quality and use of the work. Although many graphics will be developed first for digital and social media, the Publishing/Design Specialist also will collaborate with teams to turn graphics into TV content.

Along with being the Stats & Information Group’s point person on all visuals and graphics, the person in this role must be familiar with social media tools and demonstrate aptitude to learn the company’s proprietary publishing tools. The Publishing/Design Specialist also will be required to edit and compile blog posts, generate tweets and collaborate with the company’s website news editors.

Ability to support the creation and enhancement of content related to design and layout.
• Sophisticated visual sense and a proven understanding of modern graphic design theory including typography, composition and hierarchy.
• Experienced with HTML; Photoshop; Illustrator; Adobe InDesign; Adobe After Effects and Javascript/J-Query, music and sound.
• Outstanding organization skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple short- and long-term priorities.
• Strong knowledge, awareness and judgment of sports news topics.
• Knowledge of sports stats and news research methods, as well as how to locate (and when to trust) relevant editorial Web resources for news and associated content.
• Ability to make decisions quickly and correctly in pressure situations.
• Ability to take proactive action in a newsroom environment.
• Ability to communicate clear priorities to colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
• An assertive and inclusive communication style that can scale across groups and job levels.

• Ensure the accuracy, speed and insight of content on Stats & Information Group blogs and other digital contributions, the company’s Twitter feed, and the group’s contributions to other company’s social networks.
• Take a hands-on approach to all aspects of writing, editing, designing, planning and publishing content. Editing and coaching to improve public-facing content as well as internal business communications.
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders, and execute administrative and content aspects of the initiative.
• Handle all duties associated with live publication, doing so from a hands-on leadership role. Demonstrate strong communication with production leaders across SIG and the company.
• Coordinate with SIG’s long-term planning committee. Ensure that our plans and publishing budget are up-to-date and properly aligned for events of interest to our fans.
• Coach peers and others in the Digital Publishing Editor role, ensuring consistent style, news judgment and tone.
• Aggressively edit, post and review the contents of the SIG blog and other digital SIG content. Read through the SIG blog submissions throughout the day and ensure all are proofread before publication.
• Look up information in our proprietary and/or third-party tools, such as TruMedia, Synergy and Stats ICE.
• Partner and collaborate with cross-platform editors and the News Desk to ensure SIG’s digital content is consistent with editorial direction.
Basic Qualifications
• Experience in graphics or media, with at least two years in a content-focused role.
• Outstanding news judgment in a production environment to craft and execute news in any situation.
• Demonstrated proficiency on design tools such as HTML; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe InDesign; Flash multimedia, graphics, music and sound
• Deep and broad sports knowledge across multiple sports, with expert-level recall of current and historical sports statistics, news, events and milestones.
• Working knowledge of Mac OS and Windows platforms.
• Must have basic knowledge with MS office products (Excel, Word and social media platforms)
• Experience with major Internet search engines and fluency in electronic newsgathering techniques, including quickly navigating the Internet and a knowledge set around social media.
• Experience with the critical duties of a social media and graphics designer.
• Provide full availability for this position, which will include nights, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience creating graphics/designs with news content, sports statistics, or covering or analyzing sports events for television, online, or print mediums.
• Strong people management and communication skills. Able to help build a team, be part of a team and communicate effectively in all directions, with subordinates peers and supervisors.
• Demonstrated competence across a range of technology tools, particularly with mobile and social media applications, and production software.
• Proven ability to tell engaging, creative stories with the best statistics, across multiple media platforms
• Spanish-language writing and speaking skills.
Required Education BA/BS on related field or equivalent work experience

Additional Information The Publishing Designer will do graphic design, incorporating photographs, charts, info graphics, etc., around Stats & Info content for use on social media, digital and studio platforms. The role is a Part-Time position working 10-15 hours per week on average throughout the year. Also, the position is based in Bristol, CT, however there is true flexibility to work remote as well.
