Graphic Design Manager

The Graphic Design Manager is responsible for creating new design elements, treatments and projects, for a specific brand or brand category; and presenting to key stakeholders as needed. This individual supports the Creative Directors.

Responsibilities
- Must execute and oversee the design of elements, treatments and projects, through the design center in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate appropriate concerns regarding potential design and brand challenges.
- Inform and follow-up with all involved parties on design execution and brand identity.
- Oversees Jr. Art Directors, Designers and Production Artists as needed.
- Strict adherence and application of brand, identity and design guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date/organized electronic files for all rounds of creative development on a project.
- Maintains and oversees file preparation standards for the brand.
- Accurately prepares files for layout and mechanical preparation
- Accurately prepares files for release to print vendors
- Archives final production files on server upon project completion (as needed)
- Reviews vendor proofs for color approval and graphic integrity

Job Functions
- Works with Associate Creative Director and Brand Managers for project assignments
- Aligns with Brand Managers to obtain overall creative strategy and execution deliverables
- Creates new design files to fulfill the brand identity and current project’s purpose
- Modifies existing layout files incorporating extreme design changes (as needed)
- Follows print specifications as provided by the project coordinator/vendor.
- Integrates layouts into die lines provided by the project coordinator/vendor
- Appropriately archives all concept and creative development files within the electronic project folder.
- Appropriately links all mechanical files to high resolution artwork/photography (as needed).
- Oversees the release of Final Mechanicals to production (as needed).
- Supports the collection of all assets, fonts, etc…as part of the mechanical release process
- Updates creative content of mechanical files (as needed).
- Contributes design elements to projects, when requested by Brand Managers and the Creative Directors.

Qualifications
- Extensive understanding of advertising, graphic design and advertising point-of-sale design
- Passionate about their professional development and growth
- Possess a self starting personality, with leadership qualities
- Highly organized and detail oriented, works with no supervision
- Manages tasks and deadlines with flexibility
- Willingness to apply explicit design process and rules
- Willingness to train Jr. Art Directors and Designers in explicit design process and rules
- Strong sense of typography, including elegant kerning, tracking, leading
- Detailed knowledge of image trapping and color separation principles
- Familiarity with UPC code files and their placement in art
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in professional communications
- Must be able to present concepts and design elements in a clear, direct, easily comprehended professional capacity
- Must be able to manipulate files in design software quickly and accurately
- Must have aptitude to function in a repetitive task-driven environment
- Able to interface effectively with all team members and representatives of other departments.
- Able to function in a high paced, deadline driven environment

Education/Experience
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent (preferably with a focus/major in Graphic Design)
- Computer literate in MAC OSX.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite – especially Illustrator and Photoshop
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and leadership skills
