The Design Director assists and supports the Creative Director by outlining and driving key initiatives and projects within their group of brands or franchise. The Design Director leads the design strategy process through close partnership with the Marketing group and other cross-functional teams, and by leading teams of design managers and designers. The Design Director adapts the vision of the Creative Director and Chief Design Officer and translates it to the individual brands and initiatives.

As part of a cross-functional team that includes marketing, packaging and marketing research, this position has accountability for the design strategy direction of the brands and champions design as a key element in the approach to the consumer. The individual must take a client focused approach to design. The Design Director is expected to be an active business partner with their brands’ leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead design strategy for a GBU or brand with oversight and approval on all visual branding, experience, and package design in all regions
- Translate the design strategy and vision to GBU and Creative teams
- Lead creative projects and initiatives set forth in the annual business plan, as well as supplemental and design-led initiatives
- Advocate, drive, and execute environmentally sustainable and low-impact design solutions
- Contribute to design briefs, ensure synthesis and translation by team; maintain project objectives
- Utilize knowledge of design and cultural trends to guide solutions
- Manage relationships and results of external vendors
- Manage, develop, and mentor team of in house designers and design managers
- Responsible for managing:
o Project budget
o Project list
o Innovation and pipeline
o Project administration
- Demonstrates strategic insights and design vision for:
o Brand identity and/or Packaging Design
o Product Innovation and/or Industrial Design
- Manage multiple projects with critical deadlines
- Demonstrate strong presentation skills
- Up to 15 to 20% hands-on design work
- Maintain a network of freelance designers, illustrators, photographers, strategists, copy writers and agencies

Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of Design related experience
- Fluency with design strategy methods and practices
- Bachelor’s degree required/ Master’s Preferred in Design or related field
- Experience with cross-platform (Mac & PC) software application and document management
- Demonstrate strong visual, written, and oral communication skills
- Experience with design-related software
- Prior people management experience required
- Experience managing complex global and cross-functional teams required
- Demonstrated ability to understand trends and cultural contexts
- Consumer Package Goods industry experience preferred
- Full understanding of environmentally responsible design and packaging
