Gaming Technical Writer

Our client is looking for an educational content creator with a background in game art creation or video game development. In this role, you will be responsible for creating content in the form of text and video tutorials, and assisting with the implementation of training programs for Lumberyard customers. The ideal candidate will have a passion for video games and more importantly, for helping others. The perfect candidate will be a relentless creative problem solver, able to create stunning visuals and assets, and explain how they got these results clearly. Candidates should have a strong attention to detail, backed up with excellent technical understanding and ability to achieve optimum results. In this role you will be working closely with the customer education evangelist, and several multi-disciplined teams to create awesome spectacles, through clear open communication and elegant solutions to complex art and design challenges. You should have a strong sense of vision and passion to create high quality assets that delight our customers.

This position’s responsibilities include:
• Help develop training by applying adult learning principles to create learning curricula that best suits the needs of the content (online, classroom, text, video or blended learning methods)
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to create text-based instructions and convert them to tutorials & training materials
• Record footage, capture screen grabs, perform voice-overs and edit content to produce best-in-class tutorials
• Update existing tutorial content, for clarity, correctness, and voice.
• Update the XML documents needed to add new content to the tutorials website.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be comfortable troubleshooting, inventing, and documenting workflows. You will work with art, design, and technical discipline leads to solve specific challenges, provide direction to peers, and need to be comfortable with artistic critique. The ideal candidate will have experience creating assets for game development and be proficient at automating applications such as Maya or 3DS Max. Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in arts, technical writing, computer science, or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of technical art creation using tools such as Maya, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, or similar
• Experience developing eLearning courseware, technical documentation, online tutorials and/or other training materials
• Unity, Unreal, CryEngine or other 3D game engine development experience
• Experience designing training material and developing tutorials
• Familiarity with voice training concepts; ability to speak clearly and confidently in English
• Excellent coordination, project management, release management and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Strong game industry experience (3+ years) working on cross-platform games on mobile, PC, or console.
• Excited about technology, have a strong interest in learning about and playing with the latest technologies
• Excellent communication skills, desire to demonstrate and teach internal tech and tools to game teams.
• Understanding of relevant scripting or programming languages, such as Lua, Python, Maxscript, or C++
