Front End Developer

• Develop, maintain and implement changes to Web site structure, navigation and updates for the law school.
• Update content on pages with advanced coding (currently all page side-navigation, telegraph forms, PHP databases, and embedded media)
• Help clients implement and update site profile, navigation outline, branding elements, content images and programming requirements, identifying appropriate technologies needed to meet these requirements
• Monitor site on continual basis and proactively identify and implement any needed modifications, ensuring adherence to best practices
• Train departmental staff on using Web editing software
• Review task specifications, assess technical risks, code, and fix bugs
• Receive mockups from graphic designer and translate them into the front-end layer of web applications.
• Provide significant input into user interface, look and feel, and features of the Web site

Future WordPress environment--all of the above ongoing operations, plus:
• Assist in the manual migration of site content into the WordPress-based CMS environment
• Work with clients during migration process to help ensure a smooth transition
• Provide BU Law staff with WordPress access and training, holding regularly scheduled training classes for WordPress
• Liason with University IT regarding BU’s WordPress theme and plug-in limitations
• Develop and expand site’s plug-in and widgets to maximize site potential
• Maintain best-in-class SEO standards for the site
• Maintain analytics and usage reports to monitor site activity
• Cross-browser/platform testing (Mac, PC, IE, FF, Chrome, Safari)
• Social media YouTube Multimedia
• Google adwords

Technical Requirements
• Experience with WordPress backend web development, including customized themes, widgets, and plug-ins
• Highly proficient PHP and MySQL skills
• High-level knowledge of HTML/CSS
• Ability to code cross-browser compatible websites (IE, FF, Chrome, Safari)
• Strong skills in writing standards-based, valid markup and CSS
• Ability to hand-code valid XHTML markup and CSS (Experience with CSS3and HTML5 is a plus)
• Experience with using JavaScript libraries like jQuery to create interactive interfaces
• Experience using analytics to generate usage reports and other statistics
• Experience with SEO management
• Experience with social media platforms and emerging technologies (Google+, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Google adwords
• Experience with YouTube and other multimedia streaming platforms
• Familiarity with the concepts of progressive enhancement and graceful degradation
• Proven record of ability to learn new products and technologies quickly

Education
