Freelance Media Buyer

Our education client is in search of a short-term freelance media buyer and planner to help with an upcoming campaign. This person will be working for 2-4 weeks -- or a total of 40-50 hours for the project. Days can be flexible. This team will be hiring a Media Director very soon, so there is a possibility for this gig to turn into a long term opportunity.

The Media Buyer/Director will be responsible to:
• Plan the construct of the service offering to internal clients (schools and programs) which includes operational policies/processes, technical requirements, organizational model, financial management and communication protocols
• Perform the duties of a media planner and to seek, research and evaluate media opportunities for clients and develop plans and rationales
• Conducts media and market analyses, including target audience analysis, competitive environment and expenditures
• Identify traditional and non-traditional channels to connect with target audiences
• Review existing client media budgets and develop a university wide calendar and negotiate rates based on aggregating buys
• Oversee the placement and trafficking of media insertions for all channels
• Assist with resolution of media invoicing matters as part of the audit and reconciliation process and coordinates with the finance and account team to resolve discrepancies.
• Manage institutional advertising budget for local, regional and targeted media buys
• Provide ongoing metrics to measure advertising effectiveness
• As required, build and manage a Media team ensuring the staff maintains appropriate skill levels and industry best practices
• Collaborate with creative, account, digital, photo/video, public affairs and events teams on various client, university and divisional projects
• Actively participate in marketing’s leadership team to help drive our collective vision to be a world class in-house agency
• Maintain a thorough understanding of the media environment and emerging trends


Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of strategic media planning and buying experience
• 5+ years of leading an organization’s media operations or a media team
• Degreed in advertising, marketing, business or the equivalent in professional experience
• Portfolio of successful multi-channel media planning and buying accomplishments

Preferred Experience:
• Agency environment
• Brand building/awareness marketing
• Higher education or non-profit marketing
• Local and regional media buying for (RIC, VA, DC, MD, NC, PA)
