Footwear Designer - Girls

Our client is looking for a temporary Footwear Designer for a girls brand for approximately 4 months. Candidates should be able to communicate through visual forms varying from hand renderings, computer illustration, and technical drawings and must possess the ability to “story-tell” through design and creatively provide solutions to market needs. Candidate will work with Product Marketing and Development to lead the process during the design phase and satisfy the requirements of the market and Brand.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with Category Director and Sr Designer to create a global line of leading product. Closely follow design briefs as laid out by the Category Director.
• Design innovative styles to maintain the company's leadership in the sandal market. Take the initiative to start projects, solve problems, and come up with new ideas.
• Work with Category Director, Sr Designer, and sales staff to gather feedback and to develop product designs that coincide with the company's customer, brand vision, marketing and pricing. Research competition to know what is in the marketplace.
• Research and apply knowledge of fashion trends as it relates to materials, techniques and colorways both domestically and internationally.
• Design each style to include factory ready technical drawings and material requirements.
• Meet all product deadlines as laid out in the product calendar. Show a sense of urgency in all projects and be involved in all pertinent meetings.
• Review samples and factory comments to ensure that the product has the correct design elements and fit, while meeting appropriate time lines.
• Partner with development in the costing process to ensure that gross margin targets are met, while creating the best product possible for that cost.
 
Education/Experience: 
• Years of Related Professional Experience: 2-4.
• Bachelor degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience (preferably sandal experience) Knowledge of international fashion, consumer, retail and market trends and their product line dynamics.

Skills: 
Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, etc
• Proficient in Illustrator and Photoshop
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong time management skills
• Works well in team environment
• Detail oriented and ability to multitask
• Graphic Design experience a plus
