External Communication Advisor

Our client is looking for a part-time External Communications Advisor to provide ongoing communications support for 2 of their Technical Centers in New Jersey (Clinton & Paulsboro). This person will mainly work from their home office but will be required to be onsite at least once a month at each location, and will need to be available to prepare response statements in case of an emergency at either location.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Contribute to bi-annual external engagement assessment and strategy for each site
• Support communications related to engagement with local charities, professional associations and civic organizations initiated by site personnel and management
• Support visits to sites from external third parties with public affairs sensitivities (e.g., state government officials)
• Develop external communications to local community or local media as necessary
• Coordinate contributions budget
• Review technical papers for potential public affairs sensitivities (tentative)
• Propose communications and outreach ideas and strategies to site management and corporate P&GA
• Serve as public affairs representative in emergency response drills and actual response situations

Qualifications

• Experience in managing and writing external communications such as press statements or web copy
• Crisis communications experience and/or training
• Familiarity with local municipalities and communities a plus
• Familiarity with the client’s standard practices and policies also a plus
