Editorial Assistant (Web)

The editorial assistant actively collaborates with AP Insight team members to ensure the production of a quality online program for AP teachers. This person works under the supervision of the following positions in AP Insight Professional Development: Senior Director and Production Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Production (Under direction of Production Manager)
• Perform content entry (for online pages) and content upload (of instructional resources) to AP Insight website
• Perform content entry for all assets delivered via the assessment platform
• Perform data entry as required to update resource monitoring, metadata, permissions, and other project management documents
• Prepare, package and ship materials for face-to-face and virtual trainings
• As assigned, place incoming files and folders from writers and content experts in appropriate locations on internal drive
• Be aware of “moving parts” – pay close attention to schedule and when deliverables are due internally and externally • Attend team meetings to understand ongoing and/or new priorities

2. Editorial
• Create documents according to predetermined templates; pay careful attention to style and format
• Proofread instructional resources and screens; locate and correct inconsistencies across the program • Make suggestions as to style and format of instructional resources • Assist with UAT (pre-release error detection on AP Insight website)
• Support PD team by refining metadata (searchable) tags on website

Required Skills:*
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Must be: o Well-versed in editorial work with experience or strong education in the following:
• English literature and/or Language Arts
• Exceptional reading and writing skills
• Prefer familiarity with style guides and/or Chicago Manual of Style
• Proofreading and/or copyediting – ability to locate inconsistencies across documents in format and style – “eagle-eye'' for looking at details
• Familiarity with educational publishing environment (print and/or online)
• Interested in working for a mission-oriented, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving education
• Prefer someone with exposure to educational environment
• Prefer someone with a background doing research on the web o Superior in professional attitude – a self-starter who does not need to be monitored; a good communicator
• Organized and focused; prompt
• Eager to show commitment to working diligently, staying on task and supporting the team’s mission
• Able to deal with a heavy workload - set priorities, multitask, and track work efficiently; solve problems and make decisions quickly and effectively
• Able to be flexible and cope with a changing task environment that reflects the development of a new program ? Able to alert managers to important new tasks or priorities; raise issues for discussion as challenges or problems arise
• Able and eager to work independently and as part of a team
• Current in knowledge of standard office skills ? Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Able to track multiple documents, communications, files and folders and inform others about their location
