Editorial Assistant

Our top publishing client is looking to hire a junior Editorial Assistant. Pay is $14-15 per hour.

The position has two main aims:

1) to serve as a liaison between the editorial team and key medical experts; and

2) to provide editorial assistance and occasional quality assurance for PracticeUpdate articles. The role will require very good organizational skills as well as consistent professional and responsive behavior as this position will be expected to work closely with the a variety of the world’s top doctors to ensure the timely delivery of their editorial content.

Good communication skills and a proactive attitude are essential for this role as the company publishes a large quantity of content with tight turnaround times. This position may also be expected to perform copyediting and quality assurance duties. Training for the specific result areas listed below will be provided and additional editorial training, broad-based exposure to medical editing and growth opportunities may be provided to the right candidate. This candidate can be home-based.

Communicating articles

This position will be given access to key medical research both before and immediately after publication. This position will communicate these articles to PracticeUpdate-affiliated medical experts as well as external medical experts. This position will respond to phone and email queries accurately and in a timely manner.

Kay areas of work:

Tracking articles
This position will maintain current records of articles submitted to medical experts and will follow-up directly with these experts as warranted.

Editorial Technology
This position will learn PracticeUpdate’s proprietary editorial management system and will enter articles and otherwise track issues as appropriate.

Project-Based Communications
This position will also assist in expert interviews, video recordings and other project needs, primarily as it relates to scheduling.

Copy Editing & Quality Assurance
This position may be asked to copyedit articles within the PracticeUpdate editorial tracking system as well as maintain other quality assurance parameters. Familiarity with html is desired and familiarity with medical terminology is not essential for this role but would be useful for career growth.

Proactive and can take the initiative
Able to work unsupervised
Ability to clearly communicate process problems and workflow priorities with colleagues.
High level of literacy and numeracy
IT literate with the ability to: use MS Office suite (including mail merge for MS Word documents), efficiently process email and telephone enquiries
College degree is required. Exposure to biomedical sciences is preferred.
