Editor/Writer (Contract)

Vitamin T is seeking a proposal editor who will write and edit proposals, marketing, and communication deliverables on tight deadlines and reports to the lead proposal editor. The editor is part of a team of proposal managers, writers, and graphic designers responsible for creating multi-million—or multi-billion—dollar new business proposals responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) from both government and private clients. Additional work includes writing and editing for internal and external marketing and for an employee magazine. The team works in a highly collaborative environment to define the overall message and to develop content from research stage through final production.


 edit material to align with the clients’ objectives, goals, messaging, and tone

 contribute to brainstorming and storyboarding

 read and evaluate written drafts to determine if they are well written, well structured, and effectively communicate services, core capabilities, and discriminators; provide guidance to writers for revisions

 edit at all levels from rewrite to copyediting to proofreading, while adhering to a house style guide, raising queries, and fact checking using internal references (i.e., turn out print-ready work)

 write clear, accurate, and market-sensitive non-technical copy for proposals, marketing materials, an employee magazine, and other communications for a variety of audiences

 research and gather corporate information, project experience, staff profiles and resumes, and other standard materials

Technical Skills:

 strong aptitude for improving organization, flow, readability, completeness, and clarity of documents

 strong command of punctuation, syntax, grammar, and style and the ability to explain these rules to authors

 ability to identify a good and relevant story

 adept at technical or professional writing producing punchy and persuasive marketing copy

 able to translate complex technical language into prose that is easily accessible for a wide variety of audiences and adapt writing style to fit needs

 keen eye for detail and accuracy

 highly self-motivated and able to work independently

 will take initiative, contribute new ideas, and solve problems creatively and quickly

 able to juggle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced work environment under tight deadlines with changing priorities

 ability to work effectively with diverse and strong personalities

 ability to meet strict deadlines 100% of the time

 flexible and able to deal with change or uncertainty

Successful candidates will have five to seven years of experience in a combination of proposal or grant writing, technical writing, editing, journalism, public relations, advocacy communications, marketing, or related fields.
