    • A leading art exhibition producer is looking for Docents to lead tours at their exhibition of over 200 works by an iconic Dutch artist.  The 8 month exhibition will run from June 8th, 2018 to February 3rd, 2019 (7 days/week) at Brooklyn’s Industry City.

    • This is a freelance position

    • Duties: After receiving training and reference materials for the exhibition, the docent will lead gallery tours.  Each tour runs around 75 minutes, and the docent is required to have commitment of at least 2 hours with preparation and wrap-up for each tour. There may be multiple tours per day, and the docent must be willing and able to lead all tours. The docent will be paid per hour, and will be notified of the schedule on a weekly basis.  When not giving tours, the docent may be asked to host in the gallery, actively sharing information about the artist’s works with visitors (giving “mini tours”) while welcoming and answering questions.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Participate in training (paid)

      • Study catalogue and background materials

      • Prepare appropriately for tours to various audiences

      • Present approx. 75 min gallery tours

      • When not giving tours, host visitors in the gallery

      • Control the group and be aware of safety for the art objects all the time

      • Help to maintain gallery cleanliness

    • Requirements:

      • Ability to speak confidently and clearly before groups

      • Articulate, professional, reliable, pleasant

      • Flexibility to tailor tours depending on requirements of different audiences and age groups (especially K-12 students)

      • Willing and eager to learn about Artist.

      • Background on Fine Arts and Art History is desired

      • Docent, acting and/or teaching experience is helpful

      • Tours will be in English

      • Strong time management skills

      • Must pass a criminal background check

      • Flexible availability

      • Must be available starting June 1st

    • Physical Demand

      • The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position.

      • While performing the task, duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand and walk up to several miles each day

      • This position will involve the ability to use hands, reach with hands and arms, stand, kneel and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close and distance vision, color, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

      • The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Hours: This position is part-time on an as-needed basis. The number of  tours assigned to a Docent is dependent on the number of bookings. Generally, tours are held throughout the day from 10 am to 7 pm with extended evening hours on Thursdays and Saturdays. Evening bookings and weekend bookings may also be held. Docents will be required to attend a day training session before the opening (the date is TBD). Must be available starting June 1st.
