Director of Product Development and Design

Vitamin T is currently in search of a Director of Product Development and Design for our client in Greater Detroit. This is a long term opportunity!

Primary Responsibilities:
• Become an expert and product champion in the outdoor living furniture/hard-lines category through industry and marketplace information, competitive analysis, and consumer research.
• Searches the marketplace for innovative new product ideas and trends to support the category growth strategy.
• Lead cross-functional innovation and product development processes in collaboration with Design, Engineering and others, throughout the entire process from ideation, concept, sourcing, introduction, quality control and launch. Focusing on hard-lines (outdoor décor and accessories, etc.) and furniture for outdoor living.
• Bring to market new and innovative products that provide smart solutions to the end consumer, while providing a point of differentiation in the marketplace for Arden and our retailer partners.
• Oversee the development, execution and operational sequencing of products from concept to customer, meeting all "Go-To-Market" milestones while meeting profitability, customer service, speed-to-market, and quality and compliance requirements.
• Works in collaboration with our overseas offices regarding substrates and production strategies. Manages the development calendar deadlines for critical approvals.
• Support the Sales Team to drive sales by collaborating on analysis of account specific assortments, retail channel trends and develop ideas for major retailers and participate in major presentations.

Professional Qualifications
• Bachelor Degree required; preferred disciplines include Product Design/Development, Design, or Marketing.
• Minimum 5 years of retail merchandising, product development and design experience required.
• Brand development and management experience required.
• Experience designing full product assortments required.
• Outdoor industry experience extremely helpful.
• Strong presentation and communication skills including the ability to convert design concepts from collaboration sessions into a tangible product.
• Must be able to gather competitive intelligence and understand how to execute manufacturable design.
• Basic drafting skill and ability to free draw/sketch necessary.
• Well versed in Microsoft Office products, specifically Power Point and Excel.
• Proven experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop required.
