Director of Marketing & Communications

Our client is seeking a high energy, hands-on, goal-oriented Marketing Leader who excels at creating and executing world-class direct marketing campaigns while also working to build and solidify the evolving brand and business model of their company. This exceptional individual will demonstrate a passion for excellence combined with agility, innovation, resourcefulness and unwavering drive and determination to achieve results.

The role will focus on the full marketing cycle from awareness and lead generation through customer acquisition and retention. The Director will be responsible for managing and developing the marketing team, external agencies and contractors to create and execute a comprehensive schedule of campaigns through integrated online, email, print, outdoor, event and social media activities.

The Director will also work with the executive team to build the brand and business model of the company. Many of their current activities focus on selling events and physical product, a key growth initiative is to build an online platform for the company that will digitize existing and future content to best scale the company and drive profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the planning, development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns to fill the sales pipeline and web funnel for events, product sales and training services. This role is responsible for ensuring that all marketing and sales support goals are met.

• Lead the development and documentation of campaign strategies that communicate objectives, target audiences, key messages, program sequencing, metrics and call to action.

• Hands-on review and approval of all customer facing marketing materials to ensure that campaign messaging and creative supports the brand and maximizes ROI potential.

• Develop in concert with management and outside agencies a brand and business model plan that builds their online assets as a key future growth requirement.

• Manage search engine optimization and online advertising strategy and agencies.

• Manage and develop the marketing and creative teams and supplement with external contractors and agencies.

• Ensure that all campaign dates and deliverables are met. Ensure that lead generation and online sales goals are met and support the achievement of wall sales goals by the inside and outside sales teams.

Qualifications & Skills Summary

• Minimum of 10 years marketing experience with 5+ years experience leading a marketing team.

• Experience with all marketing channels, including integrated email, direct mail, collateral, digital, social media, video, webcasts and live event marketing.

• Content strategist and communications expert, able to provide sound business guidance to effectively position the brand to a range of target customers.

• Marketing Communications background preferred, able to plan and execute compelling customer communications with a focus on integration, innovation and continual improvement, not just execution.

• Numerate with Excel or other spreadsheet skills, able to create budgets and interpret campaign results and ROI.

• Experience in managing marketing programs across channels; bridging offline tactics (e.g. tradeshows, roundtables, speaking opportunities) with the online acquisition process.

• Knowledge of Salesforce, Marketo, Liquidplanner and ecommerce environments a plus.

• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

• Strong project management and reporting skills.

• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

• Strong skills with: Apple & Microsoft Office products.

• Position is based at headquarters in San Diego, CA. with frequent travel required.
