Director Strategy & Planning

Vitamin T is partnering with a great agency looking for director level talent to lead consumer insight, strategy, and communication/activation channel plan development for key agency activations. The role uses strategy and planning experience to interpret client requests, to focus and frame problem solving efforts, to uncover fact-based actionable insights about consumers and shoppers, as well as, to inspire the creative process. This position works with the team to advance the agency’s approach to marketing, to address critical needs of client’s segments, and to recommend communication efforts and promotional and activation tools.

Job Relationships
Reports to: Senior VP, Strategy and Planning
Interrelationships: Internal: regular and on-going interactions with people at all levels in various departments. External: on-going client contact; licensors; other agencies.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
• Partners with Client Service and Creative to both focus and inspire the brand activation projects.
• Presents the impact culture, society, economics, and politics have on consumers and shoppers and their behaviors and attitudes towards categories and brands.
• Applies key learnings and marketplace/category/brand realities to agency recommendations.
• Identifies pivotal insights for foundation of concepts and ideas.
• Partners with Creative to develop activation platforms and full concept statements.
• Outlines the channel plan for each concept recommendation.
• Provides tools for teams’ use in bringing consumer segments and insights to life for creative inspiration, briefings, and client presentations. May be asked to lead brainstorming effort.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, or Sociology. Masters or doctorial degree strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in strategic planning or client-side brand marketing developing both above-the-line and below-the-line marketing and consumer communications and activations.
• Experience leveraging borrowed equity (sports, major theatricals, music) critical – Olympics a plus
• Demonstrated experience in various areas of planning and marketing strategy, including consumer/shopper insight development, promotional marketing, interactive/digital, retailer strategy, branding, and communications channel planning.
• Familiarity with activations in the digital space.
• Ability to gather, review and synthesize data into cohesive strategic recommendations and ensure agency adherence to such direction.
• Confidence and credibility to hold mid-level strategic conversations with agency and client counterparts.
• Exceptional cross-functional team player with solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong presentation/storytelling skills.

Essential Physical/Other Requirements
• Works under frequent time pressures and distractions.
• Mostly sedentary work – requiring the ability to talk, hear and see.
