Director, Content Development & Production

Position Description:
This is an opportunity for you to set up operations, create a brand new center, and build a team from the ground up!

An awsome company that is moving to Portland is looking for an innovative leader and creative problem solver who will build, manage and scale a new Content Development team in this 2nd Content Services location. Reporting to the VP of Content Services, you will be responsible for content production, delivery, reporting, and management of your newly created team. You will ensure the successful on-time delivery of high quality content, while collaborating with HQ to optimize communication and processes for improved efficiency and scalability. You will be responsible for hiring and managing motion designers, writers, and quality control specialists, in order to create and deliver motion graphics videos. You will liaise with other internal leaders to ensure the smooth and successful flow and on-time delivery of content. You are a leader who combines strong operational skills with a passion for building great customer experiences through engaging content.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure successful, on-time delivery of high quality content against dynamic, often tight production schedules
  • Coordinate with headquarters to understand and implement effective processes for managing a high-volume content production workload, maximizing resource productivity while maintaining high standards of quality
  • Optimize a scalable video production workflow infrastructure between headquarters and this location
  • Report on business KPIs/metrics, set team goals and manage and report to those goals independently
  • Manage multi-department function including writing, design, and quality
  • Assist in developing standards, systems and best practices (both human and technological) for content creation, distribution, maintenance, and repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies
  • Foster positive, collaborative relationships with other functional areas within the organization
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of our content workflows and products
  • Recruit, hire and develop talent across all content roles in new location
  • Work with the other internal leadership to build and implement content-specific training and development programs, including onboarding plans, skills development and process documentation


  • Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Digital Media or Film/TV/Video Production
  • 10+ years in a video, media or content production environment
  • 5+ years leading and managing a creative team, with 2+ years of experience managing people managers
  • Experience leading and motivating people, and encouraging teamwork in a creative production environment
  • Strong operational skills with specific experience developing processes and systems that enable an organization to scale quickly
  • Ability to create the right business metrics and use those metrics to drive the business
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to multi-task and delegate
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Exhibit a positive, can-do attitude and be willing to work in a hyper-growth environment. In other words, roll up your sleeves and thrive in a fast-paced start-up.


  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with project management and/or digital asset management software
  • Experience in healthcare, financial and/or human resource industries a plus
  • You like snacks (Well, that’s not really a requirement, of course, but like any good start-up we do believe in keeping a kitchen stock full of them)
