Digital Programme/Project Manager

The Schools Online Consultant manages the Schools Online core global digital service ( for internal and external clients. He/she is responsible for managing, maintaining and optimising the content and core global functionality provided by the service. Over the last year Schools Online has been redesigned and there has been a lot of technical development to ensure that we have a stable, fit-for purpose platform that effectively meets end-users needs. Moving to the next financial year, we will be in a position to focus more attention on optimising and refining the content, features and functions of the website, against primary aims whilst keeping commercially astute. The Schools Online Consultant will play a major part in this transition, ensuring best practise editorial and quality assurance systems.

Key skills required for the role are:

· Digital project and Programme Management – very organised, proactive and resourceful. Ability to manage (to quality, time and budget) several related activity streams at once, without losing sight of the bigger picture.

· Broad digital and systems experience – experience of managing e-learning development, transactional system development and digital solutions from requirements gathering and documentation through to design, development, testing and implementation.

· Stakeholder engagement and management – experience of engaging and managing stakeholders in a complex (and ideally global) organisation.

· BAU Website management – optimisation, editorial management and process/systems refinements to increase effectiveness and efficiencies against business objectives. Commercial astuteness.

· Managing 3rd party agencies – experience of procuring, contracting and managing 3rd party agencies

· Business planning, budget management and Reporting – experience of financial planning and managing monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Organising and chairing a regular SO project board /strategic steering meeting, providing regular updates to clients and stakeholders.

· Team leadership and people management – Three direct reports and a wider team to engage and manage according to various workstreams. Experience of managing virtual teams as the role requires management of a customer service team based in Thailand, and others in Edinburgh and Manchester.

· Marketing skills – putting the user at the heart of deliverables/communication, understanding of how Schools Online can best be promoted and also utilise to meet business objectives.

The Schools Online Consultant sits within the Marketing, Digital and Communications team (MDC) in the Education and Society strategic business unit (E&S). He/She will work closely with colleagues and key stakeholders across E&S, including the SchoolsOnline Technical Consultant, the Head of Digital for Schools and Account Management to ensure that the service is managed to a high standard on behalf of internal and external clients. The Schools Online Consultant will also work closely with other regional colleagues within the wider BC global network.
