Digital Media Designer

A client is in need of a Digital Designer to join their Digital Media Team on a 3-month contract. They are looking for someone with solid experience in working with a cms (variety of cms), an ability to work with existing templates and styles to present our content. There is a small element of extending existing templates and styles. They also need to be very comfortable getting into the HTML within the cms (for embedded content, tweaking wrapping layout etc). This coupled with image and graphics preparation.

Daily tasks:
• Image and graphics selection, cropping, and uploading for the website, e-marketing and social media
• Preparing video content for publication on Youtube (and the website via Youtube player)
• Page layout using existing templates and styles within the website cms, and manipulating the HTML and CSS as needed
• Implementing and embedding 3rd party applications within the Gallery’s website.
• Liaising with Picture Research to ensure rights are cleared and tracked and all non-NG images are used according to agreements and with correct crediting
• Maintaining the digital guidelines and documentation on processes (wiki-based)

Qualifications
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in any of the following: digital media design and production, digital interaction/user experience, multimedia design or (screen based) graphic design

Experience
Essential
• Experience of designing for, and working with content management systems
• Extensive experience of working with, and manipulating, standards compliant HTML and CSS for both static and dynamically generated content.
• Experience of preparing audio and video content for online use
• Experience of quality assuring deliverables from 3rd parties (such as new designs, templates, bug fixes)

Desirable
• A track record of working on large-scale, content rich and highly visual websites

Skills and Abilities
Essential
• Able to apply a ‘critical eye’ when selecting and preparing photographic images/illustrations
• Able to successfully communicate interface designs and user journeys through standard documentation including; wireframes and user flow diagrams
• Meticulous and rigorous in all aspects of their work
• Attention to detail in quality assuring work and bug testing
• Ability to actively uphold and develop guidelines as necessary
• Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent team-player and also able to work on their own

Desirable
• Able to recommend best practice for digital design and production
