A leading North American Retailer comprised of three of the retail industry’s most iconic brands is seeking a mid-level Digital/Web Designer to join their team. This is a FREELANCE TO HIRE opportunity.

Position Title: Senior Designer, Editorial
Title Position Reports To: Senior Creative Manager, Editorial

Summary:
The Senior Designer works alongside the Senior Creative Manager to establish the conceptual and stylistic editorial direction for the Women’s Apparel category and supporting email communication, the Senior Designer will be creating editorial content as well as managing the design team to deliver consistent, high quality on brand design. The Senior Designer collaborates with photographers, editors, designers, and anyone else who is involved in the development of a project. The Senior Designer also collaborates with the UI team in the design and implementation of long-term changes to the features and functionality of the website.

Expected Work:
Meeting/ Studio Commitment: 30%

Primary Goals:
Creative Responsibilities/Objectives - 65% of time
 Explore trends and competitive landscape and incorporate appropriate use of color, type, tone and editorial style in digital design standards
 Assist Senior Creative Manager in developing and communicating brand/visual style guidelines and standards
 Develop subject matter expertise and champion unique character of their specific customer/merchandise focus areas (ex. unique visual and editorial expression for men)
 Participate in productive brainstorming sessions that result in concrete ideas for execution
 Design and deliver strategic (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3) creative initiatives, targeting business objective(s) while ensuring compliance with brand standards and timeline requirements
 Assist in reviews, approvals and communications to design and production teams regarding versions and extensions of strategic concepts to ensure projects are delivered with brand compliance
 Work closely with UI design, IT development, Product and Project teams to ensure flawless integration with back-end technology and a great user experience

Secondary Goals:
Business Partner Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 10% of time
 Communicate and respond to business partners in a professional manner
 Collaborate with customer marketing and merchandise buying teams to develop expertise on unique opportunities and attributes of different customer segments and product groups
 Consult with/educate business partners and marketing/merchandise teams on creative options

Process Responsibilities/Objectives - 10% of time
 Utilize workflow process and technology to ensure quality delivery of work product on an ongoing basis
 Communicate obstacles and improvement opportunities within workflow processes to the Senior Creative Manager
 Prioritize and schedule project tasks to meet deadlines
 Perform quality-assurance procedures on all weekly deliverables as defined by workflow process
 Ensure all electronic files are built responsibly (smallest size, proper naming conventions, error free), and achieve error-free work
 Work with the Senior Creative Manager to trouble shoot project issues and resolve conflicts as required; gather facts

Team Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Share expertise with internal creative team
 Work with the Senior Creative Manager to interview and select new design hires/contractors
 Work with the Senior Creative Manager to define yearly and quarterly personal goals and team objectives
 Support corporate culture, values and mission
 Contribute to environment that is efficient, professional, proactive, and team oriented

Operational Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures
 Maintain high utilization rate

Technology Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Utilize workflow technologies that support the creative team (i.e. workflow/project management, digital asset management/DAM, dynamic collateral creation/DCC)
 Maintain expertise and stay updated in appropriate and latest interactive software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Image Ready, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint, XHTML, Java, CSS)
 Provide feedback to the Senior Creative Manager about changes and enhancements needed to software and technology to reflect current trends and needs

Performance Measures/Outcomes (example: key metrics, turnover, retention stats, etc.)
 Achieves project deadlines as evaluated on a quarterly and yearly basis
 Reduces cycle time by ensuring delivery of any necessary design specification documentation, files and user assets to development team that are on brand and ensures flawless integration with back-end technology
