PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Experienced, full-time professional Senior Writer works onsite to effectively and efficiently lead and collaborate with colleagues and business partners in the development of high-quality editorial and promotional content across multiple channels and in support of corporate and business unit goals. The Senior Writer has a sophisticated understanding of the investment management industry as well as company capabilities, products, and services. S/he is capable of developing solutions for diverse investor and client audiences, but with an emphasis on B2B audiences: retirement plan sponsors, C-suite decision makers, financial advisors, and institutional investors.
Development and implementation of marketing communications: Collaborates with colleagues in Brand + Creative and other shared-service groups as well as marketing managers in business units. Works closely with associate creative directors, designers, and account managers to establish creative strategies. S/he needs to have a flair for partnering to translate inputs into well-conceived creative/content solutions, for delivery on a timely basis. Actively leads or participates in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas, researches content, and develops clear, concise, compelling branded copy based on agreed-upon strategy. Executes all levels of content for B2B audiences including sales support for financial intermediaries, investment capabilities content for institutional clients, and educational content for retirement plan sponsors. The incumbent is charged with creating new content from concept through deployment. Key content outputs include: brochures, sales kits and presentations, ads, newsletters, email, websites, and video.
Presentation and selling of creative solutions: Responsible for the presentation and selling of creative solutions (including approach to content) to the business channels. This is an iterative process, requiring the Senior Writer to go back to the business manager with modifications and improvements based upon feedback.
Collaborating and communicating with shared service partners: Works closely with designer and other key internal business partners (i.e. Portfolio & Performance Analysts, Marketing Managers, Product & Subject Matter Experts, Legal/Compliance) to develop concepts and communication solutions for initiatives. In this respect, the incumbent acts as a consultant to help the business partner refine copy requirements by asking questions and presenting alternate solutions. The incumbent is then responsible for transforming those requirements into an appropriate deliverable through collaboration with fellow team members and other shared services.
Creative project management: Actively monitors project schedule and upholds responsibilities to keep on deadline. Works closely with product owners to refine copy and responds quickly and carefully to copy comments and requested changes.
Strong Web-writing experience, familiarity with content strategy, information architecture process, SEO techniques; familiarity with social networks a plus
NASD Series 6 or 7 license a plus
5-7 years as lead writer in the mutual fund or asset management business focusing on sales support, educational/promotional copy for business to business audiences.
Understanding of HTML, Vignette, web design programs, video scripting and production, a plus
Advanced degree in Journalism, English, Marketing or Business preferred including MBA/CFA
College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or
Associate degree and 4 years related work experience, or
High School diploma/equivalent and 6 years related work experience
Mutual fund/asset management marketing experience with a focus on writing, editing and creative development for business-business audiences.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Journalism, Advertising, Communications, Marketing, Business, Economics or equivalent required
An ability to write about complex concepts in an interesting and engaging style—copy must be clear, concise and compelling
Experience in planning & writing digital content, SEO; direct mail; fulfillment & collateral
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Solid knowledge of financial markets and distribution of financial & investment products
Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to think creatively, conceptually and strategically—adding a unique creative flair to promotional projects
Ability to review current financial market conditions and/or fund characteristics and extract salient details for presentation as actionable, compelling sales ideas
Must be self-motivated with a desire to work as part of a creative team in a highly collaborative corporate environment
