Our major media client is looking for a Digital Copy Editor local to the Chevy Chase/DC area. While some work will be done remotely, there will be times that the candidate will need to be in the office.

ROLE

The Web Content Copy Editor will edit interactive content. The content to be copy edited will include—but is not limited to—articles, slideshow captions, travel guides, blog posts and metadata written by both the Digital Team as well as freelance writers and bloggers.

REQUIREMENTS

This person must be not only a good editor and writer, but also someone who is organized, a team player and a multitasker. Candidates are required to have an extensive knowledge of AP writing style that will be useful in maintaining and updating an internal style guide to strengthen site consistency and standards. This role will ensure that all copy is coherent, concise, accurate and written with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES

- A self-starter who can update and maintain our internal style guide.
- Should have sufficient experience to lead impromptu workshops to help improve writing skills and enforce standards as set by managers.
- Should be assertive enough to provide constructive criticism to junior- and senior-level producers as well as recognize and return unacceptable copy to producers to revise when necessary.
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of copyediting experience.
- Should have a strong editorial voice, point of view, ability to spot trends, as well as a working knowledge of the travel landscape on the web and in social media.
- Should be familiar with SEO practices, concepts, tools and techniques.

Copy editor will partner with SEO team to ensure implementation of SEO best practices, provide keyword research, copy optimization, on-page and off-page search engine optimization and linking strategies to drive traffic and increase visibility to primary site in all relevant search engines.
