Design Specialist (Mission and Education)

Collaborates with the Marketing, Development, Affiliate and Mission teams in the layout and design of brand communications, newsletters, publications and collateral. Provides creative concepts, direction and design to fulfill various internal and external requests. Serves as an internal consultant or advisor to review and edit materials such as newsletters, publications, and collateral to ensure creative adherence to established standards and branding guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the marketing, affiliate, development and mission teams to create the design and layout for brand collateral and corporate publications, including but not limited to brochures, newsletters, direct mail, email, advertisements, social postings, press kits etc. based on brand strategies.
- Consults cross-functionally with numerous groups regarding the development, production or review of any new or existing materials or projects that involve brand communication ensuring they are aligned with strategic goals and brand guidelines.
- Leads creative concepting, design and production of brand and creative assets for the organization.
- Integrates Client's branding into all communications materials, tools and programs, working with internal and external audiences such as staff, Affiliates, volunteers, corporate partners, and grantees to explain and maintain the Client's brand.
- Creates and manages efficient online creative routing and approval process among key cross-functional partners.
- Reviews and ensures the quality and accuracy of all marketing/branding materials for marketing team by adhering to the correct use of established brand standards and conventions.
- Manages relationships with print and production vendors to complete design efforts to include: print selections, project parameters, bid processes, and negotiation of pricing.
- Stays up to date with trends in the industry to deliver new, innovative ideas of communicating brand messages – both through design and technology applications.
- Provides counsel to those seeking information on brand usage, logos, graphics, photos and artwork design/treatment and PSA requests and inquiries.
- Develops system to maintain/manage brand collateral/materials, advertising resources and digital assets for client's website on the internal network in an efficient manner.
- Works with advertising agency to develop brand style and usage guidelines and ensures adherence organization wide.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Art, Graphic Design, or related area and 3-5+ years of related experience in graphic design. Thorough understanding of graphic design principles such as color, composition and typography demonstrated through an extensive, broad portfolio. Excellent working knowledge of the following programs: Adobe CS3 and Macromedia Studio MX with the desire to learn new software quickly. Detail-oriented with strong proofreading skills. Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple assignments and produce quality work under tight deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to take creative direction. Ability to work independently but also thrive in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude.

Experience in a fast-paced or high-growth organization preferred. Experience in print production and familiar with pre-press and printing processes and requirements. Experience with creative/ development in Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, Flash, Ektron 9.0 and Javascript a plus. Knowledge of corporate branding standards desired. Experience working with outside vendors valuable.
