Design Retail Experience Director/Creative Director

Are you a retail specialist? This is an incredible and unique contract-to-hire Director level opportunity with a growing organization in the Twin Cities area.

In this position you will:

- Be a conceptual thinker with a solid business sense.
- Be responsible for the management of design business strategy
- Determine objectives, design service operations, schedules and priorities, sales and customer initiatives
- Formulate the innovative concepts that support the company’s brand, marketing and product goals
- Collaborate with business leaders to translate business goals into unique brand and product experiences.
- Manage budgets, teams, timelines, and projects while working across several departments.
- Stay up-to-date with new creative technologies and analyze new trends and data.
- Effectively communicate with external clients, developing retail visual communications through great design delivery experience.
- Present and effectively communicate how a creative vision will help achieve goals for core customers.
- Be a strategic leader, who demonstrates skills in relationship building and management
- Support new business and business development, communication, and team building.
- Lead by example, through words and actions, to communicate the Company’s values, strategy and policies, effectively communicating corporate operational goals and objectives to all staff.
- Continually inspire, lead and develop staff member capabilities through leadership, coaching, training and discipline and create an environment that promotes achievement of both personal/professional and group/team goals.
- Generate detailed financial forecasts, audits financial performance of department and budgets staffing requirements and capital expenditures.
- Perform long-range planning and make recommendations to increase or decrease design services functions as necessary.
- Implement new procedures to improve design services functions
- Execute strategic brand objectives across Research and Design business segments.
- Lead client presentation or support client engagements
- Create and own key strategic deliverables including: retail and/or graphic design Insights, reports, brand audits, brand messaging, brand architecture, etc.
- Develop design strategies; conduct discovery, analyze, and roll up insights
- Develop and manage the P&L, report on performance of the business to senior leaders
- Work closely with the marketing and retail sales teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all channels.
- Establish and cultivate a network of clients beyond existing clients
- Lead and manage a variety of projects concurrently from a client management perspective.
- Scope and access existing documents, explore open issues, and conduct ideation
- Select the design te am and assign projects based on the availability, capabilities, expertise and skill level of staff.
- Brief design team, set the stage for creativity, facilitate concepting with team and critique team deliverables.
- Detail the design phase, monitor billable hours, anticipate red flags, monitor work in process, balance creative and engineering elements
- Provide "voice of the client", coach team members, facilitates discussion of strengths and weaknesses
- Lead presentation for Leadership and Customers.
- Ensure design staff works collaboratively with other departments and/or accounts,
- Provide leadership/motivation and conveys the vision and values of the company
- Assure that staff adheres to established company policy/procedures
- Participate in recruiting and developing experienced design talent.

You should have:

- Minimum of 6 years brand or retail experience
- 3+ years management and leadership experience
- Previous experience managing a team of creatives
- Proven experience creating strategies that are executable.
- Persuasive nature and experience selling projects with a proven record doing so
- Strong client-facing skills/business acumen.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, on complex multiple assignments.
- Excellent problem solving skills and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience working under stressful deadline pressure within an entrepreneurial environment.
- Strength in influencing others within an organization.
- Understanding of research principles and retail shoppers is a must.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Design or related field required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce error free written reports and correspondence.
- Must be process focused, organized, efficient and action-oriented.
- Business acumen that inspires confidence in his/her knowledge and ability to lead a successful department and positively influences other leaders and staff
- Experience in retail visual merchandising, store environments and/or a visual graphics
- Experience develop and executing timelines and project planning process development.
- Ability to travel on occasion
