Design Manager

One of the hottest design studios in Portland is looking for a Design Manager to add to their team. If you love wearing many hats all at one time and have experience in Resource, Project, and Account Management, this is the role for you!

Jack of all trades, master of none (except communicating), you must have creative sensibilities, need some modicum of maths, need to be client facing, and be fearless. You also need to haggle, be able to sell and be manipulative. Also need to be good on the phone, computer literate, smart with jargon, master finance systems, understand technology, and be articulate. You need to cut to the chase without missing a single detail. Like a swan, you are calm and serene on the surface with their flippers paddling like the clappers underneath. Coiled springs on set, diplomats always. Nurturing and tough, quick witted and patient.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate and shepherd client and internal team toward shared vision.
    • Drive weekly/daily studio meetings
    • Deliver ongoing updates and status reports (budget, timeline, production, etc.)

    • Gain and maintain the trust of both the client and internal team and ensure their needs are met.
      • Earn trust and respect by being friendly, helpful, assertive and competent.
      • Anticipate clients’ needs and make their life easier
      • Anticipate internal needs and forecast/prepare for designers’ workload and/or outside freelance help.
      • Keep track of all the moving parts so you can speak confidently on any project aspect at any given time.
      • Be resourceful: Don’t rely on others to provide all the information you need.
      • Build client confidence in BG as an entity.

      • Be the client and internal team communication facilitator.
        • Use consistent and systematic communication methods.
