AQUENT is partnering with one of our COOLEST and most sought after clients to bring them a Service Design Manager for their OUTSTANDING team in San Francisco!

At this client, they think big and do big things. They were the first company in their industry to develop and offer mass customization and personalization of their products, and have been innovating relentlessly ever since. Today, they are a high-tech company, a scientific laboratory, and a nationally recognized brand all in one. They are a passionate and entrepreneurial team with heart – a team that embraces bold ideas, fosters collaboration, and delivers world-class products and services.

Founder-led by their Chairman and CEO, they dare to dream, disrupt and deliver a better way for customers, the industry, and for each other. Their goal is simple: bring ingenuity, simplicity, and humanity to an industry ripe for change.

This team, as the service design hub for the company, is dedicated to approaching business decisions from a service mindset to enable consistent customer service experiences, process efficiency and best practices that support the organization's mission to Change The Industry for Good.

We’re looking for an engaging Design Manager to join us in San Francisco for a 5-month contract (February - June, 2017) who is passionate about the fields of service design and user experience, has developed and managed large-scale programs and multi-track projects, and has excellent communication skills. Our Design Managers are an integral part of our team and have a big impact on the work we do.
To join our team, you will need to have a strong background in design management for digital product and/or omni-channel service experiences. You have a broad set of skills in program management, but you have a passion and depth in specific areas of practice that set you apart from the pack. You have an exuberant passion for the power of strategic design and an “anything’s possible” mindset. You are capable of managing the full design process from framing/reframing problems, to guiding conceptual solutions, and to helping deliver designs that become elegant experiences for customers and employees. You also have the ability to connect design solutions to business objectives and measurable outcomes.

What You’ll Do
Project oversight for entire engagement, including partner relationship, team, budget, schedule, risk management and mitigation
Support the business team in scoping new engagements and developing business cases
Collaborate with Project Lead to deliver projects/programs that exceed expectations
Facilitate knowledge sharing across the company: Illuminating related projects, surfacing research insights, communicating lessons learned, reporting metrics, etc.
Manage team relationship in coordination with the Project Lead
Facilitate project team communications and workflows
Partner with the team to deliver amazing work during the engagement while balancing overall project health
Participate in the design process (stakeholder interviews, research, analysis, and concepting) as necessary
Maintain project momentum and keep the project and team on track
Perform other related duties as required

We are looking for someone who has experience managing projects in our kind of environment or somewhere similar. Strong communication and writing skills, sincerity, and a sense of humor are key in our highly collaborative approach. Our Design Managers must also be comfortable with ambiguity in the face of design challenges and know how to move toward the right solution as part of a team. We hire for the right skills and experience, but being a good culture fit is equally important.

Desired Attributes
Master’s degree in design, design strategy, business/management, or related fields
Collaborative / team player
Ability to work with a wide range of personalities and skill-sets in a fast-paced environment
Ability to stay and keep your team on deadline
Expert client/partner management and communication skills
Ability to negotiate and get to resolution
Passionate about improving people's lives

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 5 years of Project/Program/Design Management experience
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of complex products or solutions
Proficiency with Excel, Keynote/Powerpoint, and project management toolset
Technologically savvy
Must be comfortable taking initiative and making decisions
Again, this is a full-time, 5-month contract position from February 1 to June 30, 2017.
