Database/Direct Marketing Project Manager

The DB PM will be responsible for supporting the email marketing and direct mail activities for the Consumer Group by managing the process of developing and generating customer lists in support of TurboTax products/services.

More Insight:
This person will support desktop efforts/ email campaigns and direct mail as well.
They will need to know how to manipulate data sets and provide technical specifications (like a BA).
Ideally they will have SAS - this is pretty much required.

The Database Project Manager person will join a talented team of top performers working in the fast-paced environment in a competitive market. This role will partner with email marketing managers on the team, cross-functional partners and the broader analytics community to improve results through segmentation strategies, on-time deliverables and key insights driven by reporting & analysis. The position will report directly to the Marketing Operations manager.

Work closely with the marketing managers to evaluate the customer target audience criteria and apply their understanding of both direct marketing best practices and available data to recommend the appropriate targeting and data strategy to meet the direct marketing campaign business needs.

• The DPM must be able to clearly communicate data and segmentation criteria to the Programming team and to perform data audits to ensure accuracy of the customer list generated.
• The DPM will effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously against deadlines without sacrificing accuracy - this includes significant coordination with cross-functional teams (internal and external) to ensure deliverables are released and received as promised.
• Use campaign and fiscal-year data to make data-based, strategic recommendations on how to improve email marketing effectiveness and efficiency.
• Identify and implement process improvements that result in execution efficiencies, higher-impact segmentation strategies, stronger test plans and easier access to customer data.
• The ideal candidate will also have experience with SAS and SQL programming
• Successful DPMs will leverage both strong project management skills and the ability to think/problem-solve analytically, especially as it relates to the utilization of data to meet marketing objectives.

Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ Years of related experience, 3+ years of experience in Direct Marketing segmentation and analysis a plus
• Detail-oriented, analytical thinker with ability to identify and pro-actively solve problems (ability to look at data audits, understand the relationship between customer segments, identify when counts don't fit criteria etc.)
• Strong project management skills - proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously against deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
• Prior experience manipulating large data sets using tools such as: Excel to create actionable information
• Advanced level use of Excel
• Basic/intermediate programming skills: SAS, SQL

Working knowledge of data structure in a relational database (tables, joins etc.)
• Ability to think both in terms of marketing/business requirements and translate them into data/programming requirements
• Understands fundamentals of direct marketing - especially as it relates to customer list selection, targeting and segmentation
• Strong interpersonal skills - ability to set expectations and communicate clearly to cross-functional partners
